Default Metallic Specks IN Windshield

I have a 2012 LS (61k. miles) and there are tiny (very tiny) metallic specks in the glass...... Random patterns and the "specks" are all over the glass and appear to be impeded between the layers. I have never really noticed the specks because I usually don’t drive the car during the daylight hours (Wife’s car) but they are noticeable when the sun hits them.
Are "metallic windshields" installed in the LS 460 or could this be a problem with the laminate?
The glass is very clean inside and out and I have tried wiping the glass down with alcohol and a quality glass cleaner without success of removing or changing the specks. The glass is the ORIGINAL Lexus glass that has never been replaced and the car sits in a "conditioned" garage until it is taken out and driven on the road.

Hi Chuck, you are just noticing the micro pits in the windshield from normal wear and tear. They could be filled and repaired, but the best option would be to replace the windshield.

I have tons of them on my LS and I want to cringe every time the sun hits them just right! But they are not visible otherwise, and don't affect visibility. Being a wear and tear item, insurance won't cover it. I don't think it's covered by my Lexus Platinum VSA either. Should take a look at the agreement... A new one costs over $800.

Agreed, they’re micro pits on the exterior of the glass.

You can probably polish them out using special cerium oxide glass polish. But in doing so you may remove the factory water repellent.

No factory water repellant on the windshield, just the front side windows.

Thanks! Is there official documentation of that somewhere? I have polished out some scratches on mine and I can clearly see the difference as to how the water sits from where I did and did not polish. Of course, this may simply be an expected result.

That will always happen when you polish out the glass, I would polish the whole windshield.

If you look at the product documentation it refers to "water repellant front door glass". When cleaning the windows, there is clearly a coating on the front door glass that isnt there on the other windows including the windshield.
