I got the air intake sound generator in from Sewell Lexus of Dallas today. pn# 17898-38010. Install is very straight forward, took me 10 minutes give or take. You'll need:

10mm socket
socket extension
small flathead or pick

#1 remove silver engine cover: just pull it up from the back, there's just 2 "*****" that it snaps in and out of

#2 remove front plastic cover: this is held on with 5 clips. you just need to stick a small pick or screw driver in to the inner circle and pry it up, once that inner circle pulls up a little, you can pul the whole clip out

#3 remove the intake "y" collector: there's 2 hoses at the top you need to pull off (held in with spring loaded bands), the part on each side that connects to the air filter box is attached with 2 hose clamps (10mm bolt) and 2 tabs (just pull the rubber out and over the tabs to pull it towards you on each side). there's also a wire that is connected with a push in tab on the right side of the y collector, be sure to disengage that wire before you tug the y collector out. now you can pull the whole Y collector out.

#4 remove the stock intake resonator: there's a single 10mm hose clamp that you'll remove at the middle of the neck. losen the clamp and pull the old tube out and replace it with the new noise generator.

#5 reinstall: make sure that you align the little "spike" on the sound generator with the hole so it doesnt rattle, then be sure to re-clip the wire back in to place. everything else is just reverse of removal.

not sure yet. i was putting around town with the kids in the car, so i didn't get on it. under low throttle, no difference, under medium throttle there's a little more grumble. i'll let you know as soon as i get to put my foot down.

now that I've driven around a bit with it, its a little noticeable under full throttle, but not by much. was it worth $110? maybe. only because its a fairly cheap mod and its OEM. if you put the car in sport mode and let the engine wind up you WILL notice a difference.

its nice because my wife will never notice that I modded the car as she puts around, but when I'm driving solo i can punch it and notice

wonder how it works. Seems like Lexus will never allow anyone who buy any oem stuff from them that will do much for sound. I had an F Sport intake on my GS350 and it sound 100% stock. Total joke in that case. What my LS needs is a sway bar set that it 2x as thick in front and 3 times as thick in the rear. The sway bars on the LS feel like coat hangers compared the ones I had on my Infiniti

so with just about any modern car, somewhere along the path of where the air filter is and the throttle body, there is some sort of resonator box/tube. that's all this thing is; just a redesigned resonator chamber that makes more noise than the original one. you could probably just remove it all together and put something over it (very fine mesh maybe) and get more noise.

I used electrical tape, but yes, simply closing off the stock silencer piece gets you the good WOT and acceleration noise.

Post #1 has a pic the last one. At the front and middle of the motor, behind the coolant reservoir tank. Near the serpentine belt and pulleys.

Wow - I had never noticed this thread before! I wonder what this intake mod sounds like? Maybe I could make it "mo' bettuh." I was also considering a way around the permanent removal of the fixed filter elements on the intake. The U.S. has these fixed filters, but other regions do not. It would reduce some intake head loss, and increase the sound ... tastefully. I just haven't got back on that project.
