So how do we change the internal OCI that appears "hardwired" for 5k miles? I think it overrides the programmable maintenance intervals in the vehicle maintenance setup screen. THAT one is easy to set up for different intervals (i.e. 7.5k miles for tire rotation), but I still get the 5k Oil Change required no matter what I set the OCI to (I think). Any ideas?

I absolutely agree. I don't mind paying a little more for anything if the job is done well, and with quality parts if needed. The biggest issue with most tire places is they do not torque the lug nuts to spec. They use an air wrench set to who knows what. This is the cause of warped rotors and resulting braking problems.

I don't think you can change that, but it is easy to reset the warning light. The instructions are in the DIY/Info sticky at the top of this forum.

I was thinking the same thing today before you posted. Most places will not use a torque wrench to the lugs. Whenever I get new tires I will re-torque my lug nuts at home to make sure it's at the proper specification and when ever I do any engine or suspension work I will use a torque wrench and set to factory specifications.
The LS 460 is built with precision and tight tolerances in mind and the last thing I would want to do is have someone undo all of that. To find that special mechanic who will go that extra mile is rare so that's why I do it myself .

On tire shops, I think you guys are a bit behind the times. Go to a Walmart sometime and see how they operate. Not only do they hand-torque each lug nut, they even have a safety fitting that will snap off to prevent over-torquing. Any outfit so helpless they can't torque to spec will quickly be on the receiving end of a bill for your warped rotors and bad brakes.

On the new 10k OCI, can't Lexus change the internal "clock" so I don't have a heart attack every 5k miles thinking something is wrong?

Default $100 for oil change at independent shop

Mechanic uses Toyota 0w-20 synthetic oil and Toyota oil filter. $100 is out the door price including disposal fees and taxes.

When I had my 02 LS 430 I paid $33.00 for all oil changes at Toyota. I took my 07 460L for it's first oil change and the price was still the same $33.00. I asked how many quarts were installed? I was told close to 9 quarts.

That can't be for synthetic, right?

Default Oil Changes

$33.00 can not be with synthetic and new filter. You cannot even buy the oil and filter for that price at any discount store.

Default Valvoline Instant Oil Change

Valvoline 0w20 full synth (I have never seen 0w20 in less than full synth)

9.0 quarts (You'll have to add at home to come up to the 9.1 quart spec)

All the labor to remove front skid plate (I bring all my cars here so I have a good relationship, but it still sucks)

Make sure you call and make sure they have it in stock (they started stocking it for me)

$103.42

The OCI is 10K miles only for 2013 and newer. Previous year cars, even though they have the exact same engine, still need the ridiculous 5K / 6 month interval. If you want to keep your warranty, better follow this schedule.

I just bought a 12-pack 0W20 Toyota Synthetic Oil on eBay for $66 (from a Toyota dealer). The local Toyota dealers quoted $9 and $7.50 per Qt, plus Tax.

Will see who can change it for the lowest amount when the next Oil Change is due.

I paid $159 at Lexus dealer in California for the second oil change (as I recall the first was free) on my 2007 LS . Since then, I have done 18 oil changes myself and enjoyed the satisfaction of doing the job right and knowing what kind of oil is in my engine. I use Mobil 1 synthetic 0W-20 and buy it on sale. I buy the filter from my local Toyota dealership for $3.99 when they run their part specials. The cost to me for each oil change is about $50. I just did my 100k mile oil change and can't believe I have done 18 oil changes.

If your paying someone $33 for this service, I wonder what your getting.

A case of Toyota oil for $66 is a great deal!

Nope. Saw the 8/2/13 Lexus bulletin myself at the dealer yesterday. For LS, OCI is 10k for 2014; 5k for 2010-13 inclusive; previous LS model years not addressed by the bulletin, so default to original 5k OCIs. Pisser for sure.
