Default Wind Noise Issue - continued

Thank you so much for your welcome - there is so much interesting material here. I've taken delivery of my car ad absolutely love it. What a machine!

I'm moving house at the moment (joy oh joy) so will implement the FIX once settled.

Cheers - Gordon

Default It Works!

I have experienced two completely different types of “wind noise” around the front windows of my LS:

1. The almost consistent noise at highway speed as if the window was slightly open.

2. An aperiodic noise that appears to be caused by very turbulent or gusting wind around the passenger side-view mirror.

The first noise was successfully corrected by the Wind Noise TSB along with the jmcraney fix.

The addition of the laminated side-windows installed under the TSB has greatly attenuated the second noise, but under certain conditions it is still very noticeable (and loud). I believe that this noise is the actual “sound” of very turbulent air flow being transmitted into the cabin rather than any air leaking directly in and around the window. Since this noise is being created by turbulent air flow, the only tangible way to “fix” it would be to reduce this turbulence – which I hope that this new part addresses.

In the short time that I have had the “fins” installed, I have noticed a dramatic attenuation in the amount of turbulent air flow noise so I would consider this fix successful in addressing this specific noise problem.

To insure that the first noise type would not reappear with the new parts, I applied a liberal amount silicone caulk in and around the mounting tabs before installation to insure an air-tight fit.

I also noticed that the new 2013+ ES models also have a similar raised triangle piece with the stabil. fin

Still haven't put mine on yet, hopefully this weekend

Thumbs up Stabilizing fins

2013 stabilizer fins fix the wind noise in under 10 mins ! No sealant or glue required they fit perfectly with the factory supplied clips and sealant strips . It's a much different design from the original flat pieces of plastic that buckled up at the edges no matter how times they were refitted .
I couldn't believe the difference and the $100 cost in Australia is worth every cent ( LEXUS Australia should seriously provide them for free to every. LS owner as a good will gesture ) I now have a tomb like silent Lexus LS 460
I swear the car steers way better at anything over 60 km h and has a vastly better steering feel over 100 km h

I've just started my jmcraney fix + 2013 triangle-with-fin.

I have the metal triangles in place and will wait 24 hours before i drive. i will then install the 2013 stabilizing fins in 3-4 days.

i will report my findings as to sound reduction after that!

So you're going to remove the retaining clips on the 2013 piece and apply sealant to the back, then stick on to the metal triangles ?

Very interested to hear your outcome, as I was also intending to try that.
But I think now I'll just use only the 2013 piece and put generous sealant around the retaining clips and perhaps a little by the adhesive/sealant strips that's on the back of the 2013 piece

It's an OEM 2013+ ls460 part, so from your local dealer, dealer that sells online (Sewell Lexus, etc.) or indy online vendor (see link in one of the previous posts)

Yeah, I wasn't clear on my post. I know the dealer has them, but I wondered where he got his. I posted above where I found them cheapest, but problem was that even though the part numbers quoted are different, they both say "passenger side". I don't want to end up with the wrong parts. My local dealer charges almost three times as much.
