I'm experiencing the exact same thing.

Thanks to AC for the link!

How are your new pieces holding up, Fhobbs?

Got a link to the R&R procedure?

Perfectly. Not an issue at all since replacing. In retrospect, it seems an expensive fix. However, the old trim pieces just looked horrible.

Has anyone had these two strips painted?

Trying to decide if better to have them stripped and painted or just replaced with new ones with the matching tape colour.

Hi Randy, looks like the drip rail pieces are no longer available thru the Lexus parts store. Hopefully they are still listed on eBay.

I'm thinking that is the best way to go - even at double that price!

Default Trim Peel on LS460

Here is a fix for under $55 that worked for me. Took about 2 hours (with drying time).

1st - removed roof trim. Simple how to video (not a Lexus but same idea)...
2nd - cleaned channel
3rd - glued back 2 clips that came loose (used DAP product called RapidFuse that I bought from HomeDepot - $5.47)
4th - peeled off the tape where possible (these are wrapped in tape vs painted)
5th - sanded remaining tape and glue residue off with orbital sander and coarse sandpaper
6th - sanded with 250 grit
7th - finished with fine steel wool (did not have 600 grit sandpaper)
8th - cleaned with Mineral Spirits
9th - painted with ERA Aerosol Paint (ordered from Amazon $44.99) -

10th - sprayed with ERA Clearcoat
11th - reinstalled trim

Thanks for the attachment. All I did finally was to peel off tape without taking trim off. It came out very easy. The chrome color doesn`t bother me that much.

Would like to see a picture of your car with the tape peeled off. My is starting to peel pretty badly and I am considering pulling the tape off, but would like to know how it will look before committing to peeling!

Default Drip Rail Peel

Hi folks, I just bought a 2008 LS460 with 34k and the car had this infamous issue: drip rail peeling; you essentially have 3 choices:

1-Ignore it
2-Buy new rails (painted or not) and spend $600-$1000+...can be found through dealer or ebay
3-Remove the paint/film and go with a chrome rail look

I went with option 3 and am very pleased with the outcome. Here are the steps:
-slowly peel off the paint/film
-Buy 3M adhesive removal spray ($20 at NAPA)
-Also buy gloves, mask, bug sponge, and goggles; are needed, this is toxic stuff!
-Follow spray directions, the adhesive comes right off
-wash, wax/seal the chrome rails.....you are ready to roll.

I actually prefer this look and the total cost was $40 in supplies and 1 hour of my time.

Good luck-BP

I am getting some peeling or seperation on this piece. I am wondering is anyone else has had this occur and if there is a fix for it (glue?). This is on a 2007 LS 460, I have had wind noise issues and I am also wondering if anyone thinks this might contribute to the wind noise.

I was able to find both sides new for a total of 400 USD . Prepainted from factory (Japan) . I am waiting for my trim to fully wear out.
