Did you rotate the tires every 5000 miles?

Its a known issue that the factory EL42s last around 15000 miles. They do ride nice but they are way soft. Michelin Pilot MXM4 are marginally better, but I'm not impressed.

If you dont drive aggressively, try the Michelin Energy Saver AS.

The Brdigestone Turanza Serenity Plus are a great choice.

If you drive spirited/aggressive, try the Potenza RE970. I put them on some 19" rims and love them.

I just pulled the Turanza EL42s off my new 2013 LS460 (19"). I had them bagged (no charge, in fact disposal fee was waived) and will store them in my garage until I trade the car in. Then Lexus can have them back - all shiny and new times five. I shopped around and found Michelin Primacy MXM4s (45k mile warranty) with a $70 rebate on a set of four at my local Ford dealer's tire operation - Quick Lane. The set was from $200 to over $400 cheaper installed at Quick Lane than at Tire Rack (+local install), Pep Boys, NTB, Sears, or any other national tire shops with road hazard included OTD. The guys at the shop did a perfect job with no scratches or other signs of carelessness. Tires were fine balanced, hand-torqued, and the old ones properly bagged and put in my trunk and back seat for me. I was in and out in less than an hour. Good luck with your search.

Thanks to all for the help on my tires. After multiple trips to Lexus it seems the problem is fixed. There was a clicking and then a knock on the front right tire. I took it to Lexus they kept it for a few days, and 5k miles left my tires remain to be brand new.

Thanks again

Default Tire Wear

Must be some alignment problem or other mechanical. I have used only top of the line Michelin tires forever and the wear is outstanding. I expect to easily get 60,000 on mine. I got 78,000 on the previous Lexus and they were still good for a couple of more thousand. I drive a mix of country roads and interstates. The country roads are all blacktop though.

I also only got about 10k on my OEM tires before they told me the front insides were pretty wore down and they reccomended me to get a new set. I did not rotate them but I was only due for 1 rotation anyways. The tech told me alignment was bad and the results showed that, but also he told me the cars are designed to wear that way to maximize ride comfort and minimize road noise. Supposedly.
