Thumbs up Just an introduction..

Just bought my first Lexus last week- a 2007 LS460. This is an 11,000 mile car loaded with $74k worth of Mark Levinson, parking assist, etc., etc., etc. Counted myself lucky to have found it. I've always wanted a big Lexus; first the 400, then the 430 and later the 460. I just never got around to owning one until now. So far, I'm much impressed.

This is the first sedan I've owned in years! Usually I'm in a truck, SUV or sports car. I currently also drive an '11 F150 S'crew with Eco-Boost and an '08 Porsche Boxster S. Other recent cars of enthusiast interest have included an '00 Porsche 911, an '07 SLK280 Benz roadster and '08 C6 Vette coupe.

In terms of sophistication, audio and creature comforts the LS far exceeds anything in my experience. I've added an Escort Redline radar detector on mirror stem via BlendMount (hidden wiring to come) and 3M ceramic window tint. That's about the extent of my plans for this highway cruiser.

I'm usually the king of customizing and modification, but this car may just be too perfect the way Lexus built it! LOL! (If you want to talk about outrageous modifications, just ask me about my '04 Wrangler with 4" lift, Gen III fly-by-wire '06 GM 5.3L V8, 4L60E automatic, custom axles, driveshafts, wheels, tires, lights, winch, bumpers and more that stays at my Michigan summer house.) I plan to resist the temptation to add 22" wheels, lower springs, etc. to the LS. FOR ONCE- I'm going to leave it alone. (Somebody remind me of that if I start to weaken, OK? LOL!!)

I'm enjoying the forums and appreciate the collective wisdom of members here,

Steve

Wow, that is incredibly low mileage for an '07. Congrats and good luck with the new ride!

You know with newbies I used to post the following - "I'm sure the moderators have informed you that there is a $50 initiation fee payble to all members who respond to your first thread. You can send cash or PayPal me, but please no personal checks, I don't even know you".

However, now that I'm a moderator, I really can't joke about that because some newbie might take me seriously. And the last thing anybody should do is take me seriously!

Welcome to the Club Boompa, don't be a stranger.

Agreed, the mileage is ridiculously low. The car was sold new and always serviced at Lexus of Manhattan in New York. The Carfax and comprehensive Lexus service history confirms the mileage. The car is out of bumper-to-bumper warranty at age 4y 4mo, though the drivetrain is obviously still under warranty for a while yet.

It amazes me how many late model sport and luxury cars are available with that kind of mileage. My Porsche was 3 years old and had only 8,000 miles on it when I bought it. But of course the good news (as a buyer at least) is that regardless of the mileage, 3 or 4 years still scrubs off 40-50% depreciation.

Nearly 35 years ago I was the used car manager at a Ford dealership. I found an elderly gentleman wandering among the new pick-ups out on the lot one morning with no one waiting on him. I asked him if I could be of service. He assured me I could, saying, "I've always driven a pick-up and my friends talked me into buying a Cadillac and I hate it. I need to buy another pick-up truck TODAY!"

Turns out he had a Sedan DeVille with only 300 miles on it that he had owned for 4 days!

I cheerfully accommodated him by selling him a new F250 and taking the Caddy in on trade- at about a 15% depreciation for the 4 days use. He was thrilled- and so was the new Caddy buyer that bought the car the following day.

Stumbling onto this 11k '07 LS460 reminded me of that transaction back in the mid-70's. But then again, I traded off a Subaru Outback with only 1800 miles on it that I hated, so "stuff happens"- or so the bumper sticker's say.

Thanks for the welcome guys,

Steve

PS- "Boompa" is what my grandchildren call me; apparently an old German name for grandfather, though I'm certainly not German.

Your feelings on your great new Lexus are similar to mine when we first got ours this July.

The good news is the feeling only gets BETTER the longer you drive it.

Congrats on the SUPERB, incredibly low mileage.

Ya make many here a little jealous. LOL.

Enjoy your time here also, as others have said to you.

I agree, that's one awesome car to first join the Lexus Family in.11k miles?! Is it CPO? The lexus service pretty much matches the satisfaction of the car. II bet you have the lowest mileage 460 around. Congrats on finding that gem! Couple of things I want to add.

I would like to believe that most Lexus dealers will always take care of you. I suggest finding a service advisor you feel comfortable with, and always do the right thing by them, and they will always make sure of your satisfaction on every level. I actually travel 50 miles from my home to have my car serviced with a lexus dealer 5 miles from me, simply because I like the way I am treated there. It's that good. They always do the right thing by me

I bought my 05 2 years ago and I love the car way more now than even on the honeymoon period. When I first bought the car, I was actually afraid to really enjoy it, and drove it like an 80 year old grandma. After her and I got to know each other, I opened her up a little (sounds naughty) and now enjoy my LS to the fullest, albeit responsibly. It's a real beast, the strong silent type. Don't be surprised when you look down and your doing 90. Good idea with the passport, you're gonna need it. I would look into the "escort live" program that recently came out. (again sounds naughty) Once you learn the driving dynamics inside and out of this car, you will be able to drive it that much more comfortably and get even MORE satisfaction. Get some Michelin MXV4's on the car and it will feel even better, although with 11k on the tires, it would be a tough sell.

Our LS was our first Lexus product, but it wont be our last. My wife is even more spoiled by our LS, and now wants all of our cars to be Lexus. I 'm looking for another car as we speak.....Me to my wife, "Um....they are called beaters for a reason." She wants a car that has adaptive lights, and all the doo dads that even our aging LS has. I'm talking subaru's and she's talking GX470's. I can't blame her. Everytime she rides in someone else's car she always comments to me later how cheap the car felt..I get a chuckle, how soon we forget.

You don't really notice how well the LS is built when you first get in. You need some time in it, and then you need to go into another car for a while. Rent one on vacation, and then RETURN to the LS, then all the improvements are glaring. GET some pics up and most of all enjoy your beautiful new car!

It sounds to me like a very wealthy NYC owner who didn't drive much but just wanted it anyway. I figure whoever the original owner was paid roughly $4 for every mile they drove the car...hope it was worth it!

I'm assuming they lost around $40,000 of depreciation and NYC sales taxes, divided by 11,000 miles, then include 4-5 years of insurance, NYC registration, parking, and an oil change or two. And that's not including 11,000 miles worth of gas! Yikes.

I totally know how you feel about wanting to keep the car stock. I modified my GS and my G35 but when I first drove my LS I felt that the car was almost to perfect to mess with. The car feels like something special. I fought the urge to drop the car with coilovers. I have only added the 22's and even they are never balanced correctly. I think my next car will be bone stock. Sometimes its nice to drive the car as the dozens of Lexus engineers designed it to be driven
