We always take our Lexus to the Toyota dealer for service. Same services are about half the cost of the same services at the Lexus dealers. These types of services at Lexus are a total rip-off. Of course you get a good cup of coffee and a donut at the Lexus dealer.

Wait, so spark plugs are *not* included in the 60k mile service? Also , I know one filter is in the glovebox- where's the other?

You may have 4 filters 6 if you count the front seat filters under the seat. 2 are in the engine bay for the engine air. 1 in the glove box for the front climate control and if you have the rear A/C as I do on my LS 460L with rear AC you will have 1 in the trunk . Hope that helps. When I had my 30,000 mile check, Lexus charged me $22 each for the 2 in the engine bay and $51.00 for the front AC cabin filter. I just ordered 2 new engine filters for $8.99 each or $17.98 delivered and the front AC Cabin filter for $10.04.

I find these mileage services to be so hard to follow, first off some dealers go by their own "schedule", then there's the owner's manual, then there's owner's manuals from other countries (same car, but different service intervals). So to me it's a lot of confusion/misinformation.

For me 60,000 miles - that mileage point in time - means virtually nothing. I change my cabin filters once a year. I change my oil every 6,500 miles (it'd be real hard to have it fall on 60,000 miles). The engine air filters I change every 25,000 miles, which for me equals once a year (I also clean the mass air flow sensors at this time).

I'd probably suggest brake fluid changes every two years. Coolant at anywhere from 80,000 to 100,000. Transmission fluid at 60,000 and differential fluid every 40,000 miles. Plugs at 100,000. That's just what I feel comfortable doing. And with my coolant I know I'm only draining the radiator and not getting all the old coolant out, so I usually end up doing a simple drain and fill every 30,000 miles. I know that seems extreme with extended life coolant, but after you change it once the recommended service interval is 50,000 miles. I do it at 30k because I'm ****, but I'm sure it'd be fine until at least 50,000.

Hi

I checked with Lexus in North Texas for. 60k service and they quoted me $954 for oil/filter change, 2 A/C filters, 8 spark plugs and checking the bolts on the body to confirm tightness. Oh, also check all the fluid levels.

Talked with some neighbors that have Toyotas and they referred me to a business that only services Toyota, Lexus and Scions. The owner used to work for Toyota (25 years) and he charges $750.

Don't need to do transmission til100k and 120k on radiator. The spark plugs are required because of highcompression engine. I am doing this to stay current so I don't get any flack if I need the extended warranty. Yes, there are some things I could do but generally not mechanically inclined so will take to independant to do the job for peace of mind.

If you can find somebody you trust, especially a friends referral, give the independant mechanic a try.

If you can do the work, that is great, if not, take it somewhere else, but don't skimp on maintenance because you really have a nice car.

Just my 2 cents.

This is a 60,000 miles service/spark plug question. So I am at the Toyota dealership in Bentonville, AR on Tuesday getting my oil changed before I ran up here to Omaha yesterday. I had 58,514 miles and the service tech asked if I wanted the 60K check and I said no I would get it done when I get back on the 4th of Oct because I will be right at 60K. So while I was waiting I asked the service tech about the 60K check and I asked what will you guys charge me to change my spark plugs. He says oh that they do not need to be changed until 100K and I said no it is after 60K per the OM and then he says you have to remove the intake manifold to replace the spark plugs on this engine and I said no I don't think so as guys do it all the time on the forum and I have never heard them say that you need to remove the intake manifold to do the job. So anyway I say how much to change the spark plugs and he says they would have to call a Lexus dealership and see what they charge and they would match it and I said then I might as well take it to a Lexus dealership? He says it takes 2.5 hours and I said guys can do it in 45 min to an 1 hour tops. Anyway just to make sure there is no need to remove the intake manifold to replace the spark plugs on a 2010 LS 460L is there?

Thanks

Dennis

THERE IS NO NEED TO REMOVE THE INTAKE!! Trust me on that. I posted a well-documented DIY with photos. It took me about an hour or so and I am not a mechanic, nor have I ever received any training. I'm just an average DIY'er. You can do this! .

The spark plugs can go 120k easy. Its just an emissions warranty thing. Not reality. Let them ride. I did mine just for fun at 85k.
