BRAKE Job... When, What, and How Much$$$
I bought my LS back in May2010 with 55k and my service papers said 12mm left on my front brakes. In Nov2010, when I did the Valve job @ 65k, the dirty service writer tried to get me over the phone saying I needed new brakes. I called his bluff when I asked him to measure it again before I got back to the dealership to pick it up. Consequently, my brakes were at 9mm at that time and he was not the happiest to see me since I figuredthat was more than enough to roll a bit longer. My question is what level should you change your brakes? Anyone know how many mm's come on a new brake pad? How much am I looking to fork up on a brake job at the dealer? Is it possible/worth buying some oem pads and having my buddy's shop do it? (pros/cons) What is your experince with this?
as long as the rotors are in good shape you can drop new pads in pretty easy. I did mine for about 125 bucks with ceramic, low dust, excellent grip and no complaints here, took me less than an hour for both front and back. The thread is up here with directions

just got my front rotors resurfaced to eliminate my braking shimmy and my pads were still good..paid $70, but I'm good for a while. I'll get some upgraded rotors and ceramics next time around..buy the parts and he'll throw them on for me cheap..my azz is too lazy. Not sure what level I was at, but my left front rotor was in real bad shape as far as being warped but was able to be cut down to spec
