OK, 3 weeks after having the amp repaired the exact same failure occurred.

Sending it back for repair under warranty. Have communicated with the shop.

I repaired the ML amp in my 430, so i took a look at the one in my 460...These amps have no way of getting cool air. It has fans but the (very) small enclosed space just circulates hot air. Great amp, horrible placement.

Solution? i used my 4" hole saw and cut thru the panel that sits on top of the amp. on the reverse side of the panel, i glued a mesh grill to make it look clean and almost "factory". Now paired with 2 JLAUDIO 12W7's, I run my factory amp hard and could feel the hot air being pushed thru the new "vent" i made.

LET THEME BREATH!

So, you cut a single 4” hole in the trunk panel that covers the amp?

Great. Can you please take a picture of the hole?

Im horrible with documenting work but ill see if i have pix on my phone/laptop. My air suspension stuffs take up most of the trunk now...i may be able to get a camera over there in a day or so.

its pretty simple with a standard hole cutter set and a drill. The "grill" was cut from an old door speaker grill

What is that huge black box in the trunk - the one with the BippuSociety sticker on it?

It's a Sub box for a pair of JL Audio 12w7's, the "Leather duffle bags of money" are my air suspension tanks

I just called United Radio and was quoted $725 for an amp repair, including shipping both ways. On the Factory Radio website the price is $400, not including shipping which is maybe an extra $50). Quite a difference!

As far as I understand UR is an authorized service center and Factory Radio is not. Can anyone comment on the quality of the work done by either of these companies? Is the price differential for a UR repair worth it?

Any advice is welcome. Thanks, Dan

I called UR two weeks ago and was quoted $475 to repair the amp from my 2004 ES330. I think the different price quotes may be attributed to the different models of the amplifier. Mine is 86280-0W101. I sent it to them on 02/27/19, they called me on 03/04/19 for my payment, and I received it back on 03/06/19. Total cost was $475 including return shipping plus $14 to ship it to them from PA by UPS. It is working normally so far. I went with UR because of what I've read on this forum.

My system was producing only a thump through my speakers every 1-2 seconds (different from the 'chirping' that other people have had) with the key turned on, regardless of whether the car was running or the audio was turned on or off. The sad thing is, this was my dad's car and he had the amp replaced at the dealer in 2015 when the car only had about 60K on it. (He retired in 2008.) Three years later, I get the car from him and it only has 71K on it. The amp started to cause me problems less than a month after I started driving the car.
