Default NAV update

Anyone had the 9.1 update to the NAV system done yet? Is it worth the price?

9.1 is from last year. i believe this year is 10.1?

i have 9.1 on my gs350 (same as the ls460), just normal maps and poi updates. i expect more or less the same on 10.1 as well

roughly how much does this upgrade cost for an LS460? I assume the dealer is the only one who can do it right?

i forgot exactly how but i think it's in the MENU or INFO page, click around, and you can see the nav version. if you don't have i agree anymore, then it has to be 7.1-9.1 (or even 10.1)

yes, only dealership can do the update i believe.

Push the "MENU" button on the side of the display. Then select the "HDD" in the upper right corner of the touch screen.

I was at the dealer today. I ask the parts' guy about 10.1 update. He told me will be ready soon for $225 + 1 hour of label ($114).

OBSOLUTEY NOT! Do not let the dealer do this. If your GS is anything like the LS, the procedure takes all of 5 minutes. NOT one hour! This post makes me mad when I see a dealer try to take advantage of someone. Get the disc from Sewelll parts for about 200 plus 8 dollors shipping and put it in yourself. This sis not hard like replacing a transmission. You can do it. Don't throw your money away to these vultures!

i guess question is whether it's gs350 or ls460. poster's profile says gs350, but

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls4...460-owner.html

if it's ls460, then it's not something you can do at home

Hmm- not familiar with the 460. I have a 430, and it's pretty simple. the 460 is HD based I would assume. At any rate, if he can do it himself- he should definitely do so.

Just to confirm, you will not be able to do this at home, and I would bet will never be able to.

The USB has a key that is loaded to an updated tool and the update is tranfered to the vehicle. You will need the USB, a techstream, and the update tool (which is pretty much a portable hard drive with a disk drive).

Honestly, its a pain in the *** the first few you do.

9.1 removes "I agree" screen and some other snappier enhancements. It was major step up from 07 and early 08s (if not updated.)

07 LS460 and on is DEALER only, and even THE DEALER had a hard time. Took weeks to get the software and tools in, and then get the training. And it was $300+

Most of these cars are driven by the slightly less car-enthusiast crowd and there are almost never requests for updates in my area, much less when I stumped them further by requesting the Gracenote updates. . I might as well have asked to have rocket installed on the roof.

My suggestion: If you have what came with the car, grab 10.1. If you are on 9.1 and don't live in a rapidly changing landscape, you can coast another year or so.
