So my "new" 2013 F Sport is nearly perfect in every way. However, the edging on the moonroof glass is deteriorating as seen in this photo. Replacement under warranty (?) or should I use something like Plasti Dip to clean it up?
I have the same problem on my 2012 LS moon roof..... I am hoping the dealer will do it under warranty. Some others have had the same problem.
I would NOT use plasti dip because I don't think it would hold up.
NO NO NO NO NO to Plasti dip. The dealer should definitely fix it as it's not normal wear and tear. In the meantime use some silicone spray to moisten it up.
Someone else posted a similar thread recently and mentioned to use aerospace 303 on that as a preventative measure.

I posted that 303 tip for "nourishing" the rubber....... The rubber on the OP's gasket is like mine and 303 will NOT help in this case because the rubber is beyond repair and needs to be replaced.
Once the gasket is replaced or you have a new car, using 303 will nourish the rubber and prevent this type of sun damage. Before you apply 303 make sure you clean the rubber with all purpose cleaner so the 303 "soaks" in and keeps the rubber happy....... Follow up once a month.
BTW! It is a good idea to treat ALL the rubber gaskets (doors, trunk, etc.) with 303 so they stay happy.
As the person who recently had my sunroof replaced because of this very reason, nothing short of a new sunroof will fix it. Mine was actually allowing air in as I drove, so I imagine a good rain storm would have let in water as well. You could hear the air whistling in when the sunroof was closed thats how much it was deteriorated and it didn't look half of what that picture above does.
In Massachusetts, glass is covered with no deduction, so if something was to say fall off a truck on the highway and break the sunroof, the insurance covers it. If not and you are under warranty, I would think this would definitely qualify.
seriously? im in absolute shock that the rubber is already rotting. the sunroof rubber in my 21 year old Ls400 is still perfect and it has been in every other old LS ive had. wonder if they changed the formula in the rubber.. why the heck would they do this?? guess I got something to look after when I get my 460 in a few years..

FWIW, my 08 does not have this issue. Must be a climate thing.
I am also a big proponent of 303 protectant. Also, I used to use a spray can of rubber lubricant from the Ford dealers that works very well.

climate could be it. looks like he is in Cali. im in FL where the sun is just as bright and a bit hotter, however its very humid here. maybe that's why I always have good rubber on my cars. BMW rubber still falls apart after a few years even here tho, but that's also a typical bmw german car annoyance.
