Does anyone feel that buying unidirectional tires (which the Michelin's are) causes a serious disadvantage as it's impossible to rotate them front to rear?
Why wouldn't you be able to rotate them?

Sorry, I "misspoke." What I meant to say was that it would be impossible to criss-cross them, but front to rear, obviously, would be OK.

Do you really need Z-rated tires that are unidirectional?

What kind of driving do you do that would preclude using V-rated tires?

V rated tires are what comes on it from the factory. In my opinion, the Z rated tires wouldn't wear as long and you don't need them...

just another voice from the universe, but I would not waste my money on Z rated tires or unidirectional, this is a performance luxury sedan, not a sports car. I only rotate from front to back, same side, on all the radials I have purchased in the last 20 years...

Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus is not Z rated; it's Y rated, which should be more than adequate; but they look like they are unidirectional.

Although I am still curious about the Contis, I think I am going to "go with the flow" and get the Michelins.

Thanks for everybody's input.

Default all season tires

has anyone experienced the michelin a/s plus in the snow. i've had great luck with other michelins and the pilot a/s has a good rating for snow on tire rack but i'm looking for more opinions. the turanza el 42 are horrible in snow.. also did anyone notice a poorer ride quality with michelin than the oem tires?

The tire's size designation is 235/50ZR18, and the service designation is 97Y. The difference between the two is insignificant, as the tire is still classified as "Exotic Sports Car", which is what puzzles some of us. It's your money, but on this type of car, it doesn't quite make sense. Enjoy it anyway...

From Tirerack:
Y 186 mph 300 km/h Exotic Sports Cars

While a Z-speed rating still often appears in the tire size designation of these tires, such as 225/50ZR16 91W, the Z in the size signifies a maximum speed capability in excess of 149 mph, 240 km/h; the W in the service description indicates the tire's 168 mph, 270

If your winter sees a lot of hills, and your car is RWD, then you might want to leave the car at home. Even with winter tires, the car wallows like a beached whale. If your car is not AWD, then I would make sure I get studded tires or keep chains in the trunk. With AWD on the other hand, even All Season tires perform well in the snow.

Had dealer supplied turanza tires and they wore out at about 28k miles. I maybe could of gotten 30-32k out of them. I put on 4 continental extreme contact DWS tires (discount tire). I chose them because of the good reviews, cheaper than the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S pilots, and more tread wear. So far, great tire. Quieter, smoother, and seems to grip better than the turanza's. Getting about 1 to 2 mpg better but that may be due to the air pressure in the tires at about 35 vs 33 on the turanza's. Time will tell how well they wear. See the Best tire for LS460 thread for more.

Glad to hear someone has tried the Continental ExtremeContact DWS -- and in a snowless state like Florida too.

Please keep the report coming.

I have the OEM 19'" wheels on my LS. I replaced the OEM Bridgestones with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S at 22,000 miles because I couldn't stand the Bridgestones any longer. The Michelins have been perfect and my car will never see any other brand.

Tires and brakes are 2 things that you shouldn't skimp on.

Based on the comments here, last week I had the Michelin PS2 A/S installed on my 2008 LS460.

Much smoother and quieter than the Bridgestone EL42s. So far, I feel that I made the right decision and a 45,000 mile wear warranty to boot.

SamsClub has an instant $70 off Michelins right now for those that are in need/want of new tires.
