The point about the LS 430 transmission recall is valid, in that these days with all the publicity it makes the situation seem much more egregious, when recalls are routine in the auto industry. That being said, avoid them if possible, but at the same time not let possible issues fester. Now with all the media hype, they've decided to recall quickly based on a few complaints (one in this case in the US). Reminds me a bit of the 1989 LS 400 recall, which was also based on few complaints (two in that case in the US). A difference is that now they are globally coordinated.

Official video demonstrating the issue, which IMO can easily occur in a U-turn:

Unhappy 2010 LS460 Steering Software Update?

I've been waiting for nearly 6 weeks for my local dealer to get me a 2010 LS460 AWD smoky granite/blk interior with Levinson and they FINALLY came through. I've got a VIN but they tell me the car's being held in port because all LS460s are getting a software upgrade to the steering. Anyone else hear of this? I'm getting itchy with the wait

Any update on this? Any idea when the cars being "held in port" will be released? Dealer told me that they could be released "this Thursday" (6/17/10) but they would then have to sit at the dealer until the updated software/computer is installed. Anyone else heard anything? Has lexus released the software/computer updates to anyone?

My dealer told me my car (currently at the port in Elizabeth NJ) would be delivered "toward the end of June" but wouldn't give me any more specifics.

I think this applies to late year 09 cars and the 2010 model.

too funny , dealer just left a VM "good news, manager anticipates car being here before end of the month, parts are there and shipping should start soon". I guess that means the update/install will occur onsite and not at dealer.

Hello I'm from the lx section had this recall done back in September 2010 but recently had the VGRS actuator go and dealership is saying it is unrelated. Anyone know what actual work was done during this recall? Thanks

Default 2008 LS600hL VCS and VCRS Lights

My VCS and VCRS lights both came on a once. My dealer says I need a whole new Rack and Pinion system/ "harness". Cost $6000.00 YET THERE ARE NIO SYMPTOMS. To me I would say a computer chip malfunction. Anyone?

I remember this. I remember seeing a full black circle for the 2004 lexus ls430 transmission in Consumer Reports . But once all was well by Lexus, the car turned out to be one of the most reliable cars ever built.

That was a different company. Sadly, I haven't heard any stories like this for quite some time!

I own a 08 Lexus LS460L, recently the check vgrs/vcs light came on. However, my car still was driving just fine. I took my car to the dealer and rather than give me a specific diagnosis of the problem they proceeded to talk me into replacing the entire rack and pinion steering system ($4,000). The diagnosis showed a specific error message code (C1289 Current Vgrs control system malfunction) which I've yet to have anyone explain, so that I can fix the specific problem.
