Default 2010 LS Anti-Scratch Paint - In case you didn't know

For anyone that wants to learn a bit more, the 2010 LS now has self-restoring paint. We covered it on Lexus Magazine and thought I would share:

Thanks Turnten. I have read about it and was not sure if the LS460 had this system. I have a 2010 LS460 awd and the book has no mention of it. I suppose there is nothing special about maintaining the finish by the owner apart from washing and waxing.

Since it was announced there has been little talk about it although I recall some negative comments arising from the perception that it may actually scratch more easily as it is softer? I don't know.

this paint technology should be available on all lexus vehicles, not just the LS. regular lexus paint chips/scratches so easily, it's not even funny.

i do wonder what happens if you get into an accident and need to repaint a body panel. does the bodyshop use self-restoring paint to match the rest of the car?

Depends... at a Lexus certified or recommended shop, probably. At Maaco, most definitely NOT. Depends on where you go...

lol @rominl

In the meantime, before you have to get the self-healing paint reapplied you could use some touchup paint to keep it from rusting. just an idea!

Looks interesting, but car companies have been toting "maintenance free paints" for a long time now. People don't realize they still need to wax their cars and keep them clean!

Lexus has some nice paint, though!

Lexus Magazine just put up another feature on washing the car, saying that the clear coat is 50% thicker vs. typical vehicles, and giving some wash tips:

I drive far behind vehicles due to the ever fragile paint on my LS. I still have some chips though... I purchased Dr. Colorchip recently and will be using it in the near future. I've heard great things and will provide my results when complete.

Now when they make a car with quarter panels that repair their own dents, my wife is buying one!

Haha, why not just have a car with a fiberglass body like a Corvette!

I'm looking for a make-up with similar capability. If it repairs the skin of my wife itself I need a new one later (the make-up, not the wife, LOL).
