Wow. Good job hyper. Is there anyway we can pry out the light housing without removing the glass and all. I'm still a little nervous even after seeing that.
Btw, what type of signal mirror are you using?

looks like the only way to get at the bulb is from the top, you would definitely not want to pull the lens out the bottom. I can now see why these mirrors are so tough. I had 2 3/4" sheets of plywood fall up against the mirror during the holidays and all it did was fold the mirror in, not so much as a scratch, its built like a tank!
Thanks for taking to time to post the details up here, very helpful

nice write up Hyper, I just did mine with the same bulbs as I have DE inventory to use!
It was much easier to do than I thought, the hardest part is the mental of yanking on ones mirror, but it comes right out and plugs right back in. There is a vertical plug that goes into the bulb that needs to come out so you can then drop the lens underneath with the bulb in it. A simple flat head screwdriver and that came off once I figured out the latch.
Its definitely now whiter and a tad brighter, but I am willing to give up some of the fade (maybe 30%) for that trade off, its hard to even notice as the element tends to paint the side indirectly.
Its a worthwhile upgrade for those that want a better light on the sides at night. I tried the other bulbs I had and none would fit, it takes a pretty small bulb so the 4 element flat version we used was a good trade off.
start to finish for a first timer, maybe 15 min for both sides... its really simple as Hyper mentions

i really don't care about the difference in the fade myself... i think it's totally a personal preference... brighter white or more fade... hmmm... i go for brighter light...
and i was a bit lazy in explaining about the pugs and using the flat head... thanks for adding that in there...
maybe i'll edit my post later...

I literally did this mod on my lunch break.
I still had time to drive somewhere to get something to eat, get back to my office within an hour and still had a few minutes to spare.
Its day time so the brightness isn't as apparent, but its still noticeable.
I used the same bulbs I used for the corner/Nike lights:
JDM Astar 10x T10 White High Power 5630 SMD LED Light Bulbs 194 168 175 W5W 2825 | eBay
Its a pack of 10.
I've used 4 so far, they all work and thus far I haven't needed to reverse anything for polarity reasons.
