All this snow tire talk inspired me to grab a set for my wife's FWD car. I was looking on TireRack and there is some really good deals right now. As the temps drop the prices seem to go up. I got a set of Perelli Winter Cinturato for $180 after rebate. On the A8 each tire runs about $215...

Wow, can't beat that deal lol.

FWIW, if you live in an area where your winters are routinely below 40 degrees and you get regular snow, you should have a set of winter tires regardless of the drive system your vehicle has, even AWD vehicles.

Yeah, what a great deal. Then again 185/65/R15 is just a tad bit smaller then the Audi's 255/45R19's... lol

I am just outside NYC in Jersey and we get a decent amount of snow but nothing crazy. I think if I was a few hours North I would invest in a set for the Audi but after experiencing how well it performed on my all seasons last winter I don't find it necessary for my needs.

When I moved up here from the South I had my 430 and we went for a drive up to Niagara Falls and got some snow. I had my ole MXV4's and they were not good at all in the snow. After I put Blizzaks on it was like a tank. Blew me away.

Although I would prefer the awd where I am in the winter, my rwd model does just fine with snow tires. Actually found myself driving through the snowiest winter on record in Boston two years ago and I did surprisingly well. The traction and stability control on these cars are phenomenal. I'm not kidding, often found myself commuting in 3 plus inches of unplowed snow...even managed once with more than that. The only thing that stopped the car was ice, ice is a different ball game...once you find yourself on a sheet of ice doing forty, all bets are off.

But yeah I'd still rather have the awd (winter only), otherwise I prefer the slightly more peppy feel of the rwd in the other months.

With snow tires really RWD is fine for almost all situations.

With snow tires lol.

No. I plan on keeping this car for a long time so spending a few grand for a set of custom headers is worth the 30-50hp gain to me.

I always had a set of snow tires either it be FWD, AWD, or RWD. It's worth having the most control possible in winter..

I was thinking the same thing with my 400 and 430. Ended up doing the full exhaust on the 430 in anticipation of getting PPE headers which dyno'd @25HP to the wheels. I came across my 460 and did it all over again. Not sure if I care about headers now as 400+ HP is probably enough.

Both my lowered 400 and 430 did well with good snow tires. Clearance was my only issue and 6-8" snow or slick ice with the hills around here.
