Default Question about Keyless door opening

Does LS open doors automatically when you coming to the car? Because I need to touch the handle but LX570 and even LS430 have these option. My dealer told me that just LX570 has this feature. Sounds strange.

I have to touch the handle to unlock the door. My settings are currently at default whereas if I touch the driver's handle only the driver's door unlocks. Touch any other handle and all doors unlock. I think this can be modified slightly through dealer settings.

The same on my car. But dealer told me that it's impossible to re-program for opening when you're coming to the car. But even LS430 had this option!

Yeah, all Lexus models with SmartAccess, at least in the US, unlock as you touch the handle. If you need to unlock from a distance you can press the key button. The dealer settings can be configured so that you can unlock all doors with the handle touch.

The point is that - at least on U. S.-spec vehicles - the doors do NOT unlock when you merely approach the vehicle. You have to actually touch the door handle.

This is considered a safety feature, since just walking close to your car and unlocking it might allow someone hiding nearby to jump into your car. Weak, but that's the logic.

If there is a proximity sensor to unlock the car as you approash, what prevents the car from unlocking after you have locked it and stay close to the car for too long - say you are chatting with someone. I would guess there is some sort of timer, which turns off the sensor for a short while after locking the car - or perhaps an accelerometer which senses that you are coming toward the car, rather than going away - that would be pretty expensive.

Nothing, but I believe it has a built in saftey feature when you lock the car and then within a short period of time(I don't know the time frame) you unlock the car again, it automatically locks the car for you again after about 2 mins if you don't do it yourself.
