Wink 2009 LS 600h/600h L gets 20% larger trunk (460 L Exec also gets 30% larger)

http://www.topnews.in/more-luggage-s...-models-283961

Tokyo - The Toyota luxury brand Lexus has increased luggage space for the hybrid sedans GS 450h and LS 600h for the 2009 model by adapting a partition wall in the boot, the manufacturer has announced.

Available in European showrooms from early December, the Lexus GS 450h model has 30 litres more in luggage space than the predecessor model while the LS 600h and LS 600hL with a longer wheelbase have an additional 65 litres.
Actual numbers:
http://www.lexus.eu/range/ls/specifi....aspx?model=LS

Current LS 600h trunk size:
330 L / 11.6 cubic feet

2009 LS 600h trunk size:
395 L / 13.8 cubic feet
Already updated: 0.390 cubic meters = 13.8 cubic feet for both LS 600h/600h L

The Lexus USA site still has the older numbers.

Thats great news as i know a few have been complaining about the small trunk, especially for a car best suited for travel.

Just checked, the LS 460 L Exec still has more space according to Lexus.com (cubic feet / L):

2009 LS 600h/600h L - 13.8 / 395*
2009 LS 460 L (Exec/rear) - 15.5 / 439
2009 LS 460/460 L (non-Exec) - 18.0 / 509

*Lexus Europe numbers; Lexus USA still lists 11.6 / 330, 2008

I don't think the 600 is as suited for travel than the 460, unless the rear seat compartment is considered as luggage space, in my case anyway. LD travel involves subtle discomforts like cabin restrictions, baggage limitations, time to destination (are we there yet?), and cabin creature comforts. To a lesser extent, MPG affects the experience - in the pocketbook anyway. The 600 is a Hybrid, and like all Hybrids, their real MPG benefit occurs in City driving, performing significantly better in that environment. Whether that translates into the comfort zone is debatable.

One could argue that the electric motor's HP boost helps Highway performance, but that only makes up for the additional weight from the L configuration and the heavy battery, bringing the Highway number more in line with the 460. Looking back, I preferred the SWB 460 for Highway use because of the larger trunk space. Comfort on the other hand is greater in the 600, but that has to do with the increased wheelbase, the air suspension, and the quieter ride, so that would make traveling more pleasurable indeed, not unlike the 460L.

I wonder what they changed to gain those 65 extra liters, and whether this increase could be retrofitted on mine. The conventional 12V battery in the left corner of the trunk could have been better located under the back seat, imho. I will be looking at this very closely when they arrive in the showrooms...

wow that's VERY interesting, i am definitely going to check out the new trunk and see how much bigger (from a usability point of view) it is. seems like lexus got a bigger trunk for the ls460l without really saying much huh

Default LS 460 L Exec package new trunk space figures

Ah! I did think the numbers sounded a bit more generous...hmm...

http://www.lexus.com/cpo/model_library/LS/2007.html

2007 LS 460 L
18.0 / 509 standard trunk
12.0 / 339 (with available Rear-Seat Upgrade Package or Executive-Class Seating Package)
http://www.lexus.com/models/LS/detai...fications.html

2009 LS 460 L
18.0 / 509 standard trunk
15.5 / 439 (with available Rear-Seat Upgrade Package or Executive-Class Seating Package)
If the 12.0 => 15.5 cubic feet data is true, that's a 30% larger trunk for the LS 460 L Exec!

BTW, no Exec class trunk size is listed for the LS 460 L AWD, just the 18.0 std.

I agree, my 2008 LS460L with rear seat upgrade has a small trunk. Any larger size improvement is a big plus.

I'm super angry about this. I would have waited for 6 months if I knew this was going to happen. The trunk space is the biggest flaw of my 2008 car. I can only carry one big luggage and one hand carry luggage in my boot!!!

The trunk in my 460L exec. is big enough for our purpose. We don't travel long distance driving across the continent anymore, we prefer to fly.
It's more than big enough for groceries, shopping bags, & the occasional weekend getaway that requires at most only a few small baggages.

When we go to the airport for longer vacations, no sedan with any trunk size would be enough to carry the luggages we usually bring anyway, we usually need to hire a taxi van.

And a good excuse for not picking up (cheap)friends to & fro the airport who aren't willing to pay for their own taxi at others' expense & inconvenience.

In Singapore, all the SWBs come standard with the rear seat upgrade package. Countries like the UK and Japan have it as an option on the SWB.

Me too, I can't fit more than two sets of clubs in the trunk, it leaves no room for anything else.
