Default Is it safe to keep the AC on when starting

Is it safe to start and shut the engine everyday while the AC is kept on?

Best regards

Yes, designed to function that way.

Most definately - I believe that it is off in the start position.

Many Thanks for the replies.

the reason I am asking because a friend of mine told me I should turn the ac off prior to ignition(It used to be true in the old days). I told him I remember reading somewhere that all electrical supplies will be turned off during ignition to prevent overloading the electrical circuits.

All cars since the early 1980's (perhaps with a few exceptions) lock out battery power to the A/C compressor clutch, as well as most other electrical circuits. This allows the starter to have the benefit of all the battery power available. It also reduces the wear on any other electrical components due to the low system voltage created when the starter is engaged.

All cars since the early 1980's
I have been driving long before 1980

Old habits don't go away easy.

Many thanks for the information

we turn all electronics off before turning off the car.
I am pretty sure it's ok to turn the car off with them on but... you know.. safer than sorry..

We all goto Start->Shut Down to turn off the computer, when pressing the OFF button is "ok"... no?

The only concession I make to electrical items turned off at start would be my lights, even though the HID's (headlights) will probably outlast my ownership of the car, I do like to turn them off first. They make a scary noise while building up a charge, so there is another reason for me...

Since I started driving in 1974 I never turned anything off unless absolutely necessary to avoid a dead battery. For the last 20 some years I even start the vehicle with the lights/radio/air conditioner etc. always on. I had the old timers telling me how bad it was etc. NEVER HAD A PROBLEM AT ALL
