Probably has to do with shipping constrictions - IOW, anything more than that gets charged two spaces on the boat so to speak. Shipping restricts sizing of a lot of large equipment. In my previous life, the size of our very large load-handling cranes was severely limited by rail or road widths. If our client needed oversized equipment, it would add significantly to the cost limit the time it could be shipped in - adding further to this cost.

Thanks for the great post. What are the years of the various models? I think the first is the 1990 LS400 (came out in 1989) and the 460 and 600 are 2007 and 2008 model years. What are the other two? My first was a 1991 LS400 bought new in the fall of 1990. (It made it to 2006 with 350K miles.) My second is a 460 L exec class bought new last September. Larry

Here is the way I understand the various LS models:
1990 1st Generation
1995 2nd Generation
1998 2nd Generation Refresh
2001 3rd Generation
2004 3rd Generation Refresh
2007 4th Generation
As you can see, since 1995 substantial changes have taken place every three years and not sooner. Therefore, in my opinion, there will be no significant change to the LS 460 such as all wheel drive before the 2010 model year.

The middle one in the original post:
is the facelifted 04+ LS 430, correct...
However, I think Nextourer is talking about the 3 gen comparo pic here:
which is also correctly the 95-97 one in the middle.
