Default NEW OWNER Question (Park Assist)

Hi, I recently purchase a ls460 well my question is how do I know if I have the parking assistance thing built into the car? And also just in case I don't have it does anyone know how much it cost to add it on and what parts do you need to get it to work?

parking assistance you mean just the front and rear radar sensors, or you mean the parking guidance as well?

if it's just the sensors, look at front and rear bumper to see if you have small circles here and there. those are the sensors. if you don't have them, sorry, and for sure you don't have parking guidance.

if you have parking guidance, then if you put the car in reverse, you should see on the nav screen the bottom left and bottom right, it allows you to choose which kind of parking method (parallel or back in) you want to do

you can get aftermarket setup if you want, but it will jsut be sound, i don't think you can link it up with the stock system. and the oem system, i can't even imagine how expensive it will be

Congratulations on your new LS 460!

Like Rominl said, the most obvious sign of the Lexus Park Assist feature are the presence of the sensor spots on the front and rear bumpers. In the pic here, there are right below the red dots.

If you don't have it, the dealer could install an aftermarket one, but buyer beware on that.

I've actually installed aftermarket parking sensors on my GX470 ( For the life of me I can't understand why it wasn't an option.) They were not incredibly expensive, but they work like crap compared to the OEM ones. Not something I'd do again, unless the aftermarket ones have gotten much better since the ones I got.

I have the beeper thing on my 2004 LS430. I hate it and generally turn it off. Here in Pittsburgh the parallel parking spots are tight. So it beeps incessantly yet you have to be a good enough parker to get the car in ANYWAY. And it beeps going in and out of my garage. If I were going to order a car, I'd order it WITHOUT that beeper thingie. And the "auto park" would NEVER work in this city.

I place the car in Reverse and tryed to find that icon on the left or right on the gps screen but can't seem to find it. Does anyone know how i can turn it on? or where its at? Or step me threw the parking step by step?

if you dont see if the icons on the bottom of the backup camera screen, then you dont have the advanced parking guidence system, but you have the parking sensors

correct. the parking sensors are just intuitive parking system. it beeps when you get close to obstacle (front or back). but you need to have advanced parking guidance system in order to have the auto park

The Lexus Intuitive Park Assist system can be toggled on/off by a switch on the left of the steering wheel, shown here:

If you turn "on" and are in a parking situation, the sensors will automatically activate, and a display will be shown both in the dash and on the screen...there are no buttons to press for the Park Assist on the screen. For automatic parking (APGS) there are, but that is a different feature.
