Default Squaks and Rattles Anyone?

Good day all. Just new to the board and find it quite useful. Thanks to all. I have a new LS460 SWB Levinson. Wind noise is there but not too bothersome for me. I know it is an issue and am waiting to see what they do about it. What bothers me is the plastic snapping and crackling from mostly the center console around the nav whenever I hit something more than a minor bump. Its not a long noise but its loud enough and happens a lot more often then it should. Also, if you push on the plastic surrounding the nave and near the temp switches you can hear the plasticly crackling as you push in and out. Lastly, I have a rattle from the glove box area which appears to not close all that well. I also had a rattle in the rear that I could not identify (coming from the headliner) and the dealer seems to have made it better although it comes back from time to time. I'm curious if anyone else has these issues. I love the car but find these types of things unacceptable in the flagship of Lexus. I have owned many Lexus over the year including two LS430's. The 430's had no such issues. Can anyone provide their experiences with rattles and squeaks and if so, what was done to fix them, if anything. I hope Lexus works on its quality control to fix these problems as they move forward. Thanks for allowing me to vent.

I have not had any rattles or noises besides the wind noise. My car has 4,500 miles. I think you should go to your dealer and check out other LS-460s to see if you get the same level of rattles. I doubt you will. My car is still super quiet - and I hope it stays that way - except of course the wind noise issue that has been discussed here so much.

Only the wind noise here, no rattles...

Mine has some rattles around the front speakers on the dashboard. The rattles occur going over small road imperfections and bott dots. I've gone to the dealer once already, but they fixed the problem temporarily. I'll bring it back in when I get the wind noise resolved.

Sounds like a loose wire or a defective circuit board.

The glove box rattles were discussed recently here: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...+%2Abox+rattle

Thanks. I will try the fix to the glove box issue. I am also wondering if the plastic issue could be resolved with removal of the trim and application of a new adhesive and reapplication. I don't know if that is ever done. Maybe somebody on the board who works at/with Lexus can tell me. I have a BMW and their dash materials (wood grain, etc.) do not make any noise when you apply pressure to them. Again, I don't mean to sound petty here but the car is otherwise so good that this level of plastic creaking and rattling detracts from the driving experience. I think the engine on the 460 is world class, even more so than many German cars, and am happy with the purchase. I probably should have waited for an 08 to work out the kinks. I had a first generation GS430 that rattled like crazy with cheap plastic noises coming from the dash. I think they fixed that over time. Lastly, the wind noise must be dealt with but I'm not sure they will given all the back and forth I'm reading on the board. My dealer knows only rumors, no facts. Thanks again for the helpful advice.

Wow, I must have an exception. Zero wind noise, squeeks or rattles. So quiet it's scary, just like riding on air.

I read it quickly and thought he meant the noise was an Audio problem.

On second reading, I realize now the crackling problem is dash related.

Maybe some Rice Krispies floating around loose somewhere in there?

Got mine 460L this past Friday, When driving home I relazied the glovebox was very loose and rattling. I took it to service and they had some in before and fixed it within an hour. Other than that it is very solid compared to my 04 S430.

and the ride was better than our sc430 too may i add. i agree it's all personal taste, but putting big wheels doesn't mean it will be bad.

plus, re-read socaljint's post, he talked about squeaks, rattles, noise, and quietness. who talked about ride?

Thanks for the input. I still have that plasticky crackle when I hit bumps. Will speak to dealer. Rest of car is AOK. Let me know how wind noise resolves itself. There are more rumors here about that than what was going to happen to Tony Soprano.

I have plastic small cracking noises when hitting any type of bump in the road all along the front dash...also have the wind noise like many others. If the radio is on, neither bother me much. Sometimes, I like to drive in silence after a long day of hearing noise and both the crackling noise of plastic and the wind noise are easily heard. No rattles here.

That's an easy fix, stop pushing on it!
