Engine won't "turn over"

After starting and stopping my car multiple times to fix an electronics stereo problem my car won't start now. It has a sound like somethings turning but the engine doesn't start and I have to push the "start" push button for it to stop and turn off.

I tested the battery 12volts, I unplugged the car battery for an hour and I also ran techstream which had a bunch of codes and I couldn't clear them.

Does anyone have any ideas of what to do next?

Thanks

I followed the manual and gotten these off the data list for body/electrical

Starter switch 1 &2 off
Starter request signall off
acc relay cut signal off
starter relay monitor off

Are you saying that the car cranks but it doesn't start?

If you turn sound up you can hear something turning

I would guess, your starter is out which this car is know for. It could just the relay though.

Before you do too much I think you should have your battery checked, or fully charge it. If you measure the battery’s voltage with a voltmeter it should be about 12.5V. If it’s close to 12.0V then it needs to be charged or replaced.

You could be hearing your hard drive spinning up which is normal with key on engine off, if you go to engine ecu data it will show you batt voltage.

Yes everyone saying check the battery voltage is correct so start with doing that. It probably needs a charge after doing so much cranking. I think at this point I'd force it to reset, and disconnect the negative batt clamp for a few minutes and reconnect it. Then try starting it again and see what happens. Nothing to lose at this point.

Have you at least tried jumping it? Just because the voltage reads okay the battery may not be able to deliver enough amps. Sounds to me like you have a bad battery.

Set the phone to record next to the right front tire. Then post the sound it makes while trying to start. The starter is on that side. If the battery has a good charge I'm guessing the bendix is shot on the starter. It's difficult to tell in the video you linked.

Thanks for everyone's help. had a mechanic buddy come over and as soon as I tried to start it he heard the starter spinning was like, cut it...your starter isn't engaging for some reason...you need new starter...so I am in the process of replacing it

Anfanger May 30, 2024 01:36 PM

It seems that you just need to replace the starter solenoid.

The results of the search I did, seems to indicate that a new solenoid, OEM or otherwise, is around $80. OEM Lexus starter is $255.54 at Longo Lexus, shipped. Off-brand starters are as low as $60, and about the same for "previously owned" starters on E-bay if you feel like gambling that day.

Mines does the exact same thing but it comes and goes. Some days it starts others it'll have power but wont turn over. Even attempted jumping the battery still nothing. The starter, alternator, and battery are all fairly new as well.
