New to me 460 Misc - Auto wipers issue and choice of oil
New to me 2016 LS460 SWB AWD with 10k miles. The auto wipers don't seem to be working. Any simple things I could look for before taking it into service. A fuse maybe?
Also, I used Kirkland synthetic for my LS430. The box of two 5 quart containers would work very well for the LS460. I change the oil religiously at 5k intervals. I know it's not Mobil 1 or Amsoil but any potential issues? |
Kirkland is fine, Any synthetic oil will do as long as it is 0~20
|
How did you test your auto wipers?
|
In the rain, as it's been raining the last couple of days. Open to suggestions.
|
The oil is fine, its not what I would use but change it at 5k.
|
Any error codes related to the issue?
|
SW17LS, what would you use?

Oil doesn't matter much on these as long as it's synthetic and you change it, typical high performing oils are Ultra platinum, M1, valvoline, etc that you can easily buy on sales.
Specialist oils will do better but are unneeded, my car has been getting whatever is on sale and really in just pulling from my stock of oil that I buy for $.05-2 a quart that includes mobile 1, total quartz, castrol etc. I just recently added 10 5 quart containers of total quartz for 5 cents each so that will last a long while Never noticed any change but I change at 5k so it doesn't really matter |

There’s a rain sensor pressed onto the windshield in the mirror area. With the car being 8 years old, (miles don’t matter in this case) it’s possible the attachment pad is no longer making complete contact. An OEM replacement pad is available. An experienced windshield tech can do it for you. Do an “interview” to see if they’ve done this procedure “many times”. Congrats on your purchase!

Amsoil, Redline, Ravenoil, or Penzoil ultra then I guess?
I haven't been as picky in the Mercedes, I have just used MB's oil from the dealer and my independent uses LiquiMoly which is very good. I never anticipated keeping the Mercedes so I have not over-maintained it, oil has been changed at 10k where the LS460s I did 5k. Irony its the MB I really may keep lol How big a deal do you think 10k changes are vs 5k? MB Spec is 10. My independent was horrified I was doing 10k, but I think his thought process is bore scoring with the older S550s and that doesn't seem to be an issue with the M176. |

I don't use Amsoil because of the zealotry, as you know if something has a zealot like following I immediately am turned off. I did run their filters in the LS because they are really good, and Toyota actually sells the Amsoil filter as their TRD Pro Filter. In the LS I ran the OEM Toyota oil which has a lot of moly and is designed by Mobil for Toyota, then I switches to Schaeffers which is a good real type 4 base synthetic oil.

LM is a very good oil, Motul is also excellent if we are getting into those types of oils lol! All of those fall into exotic types in a good way Funny how that works out isn't it? I was the same way with my 4.0 until I hit that point of "oh I think I like this a lot" and started acting like I was keeping it vs 1-2 years then resell. |
