Default $200 for oil change?

I called couple of Lexus dealers in DFW area and their oil change price is between $180 and $200. $50 for tire rotation. Really? Oil change so expensive at dealership?

Since mine is a CPO, last two oil change were free. I will call Toyota dealers tomorrow to check how's much they will charge...

Toyota by me is $89. 8-9 qts of synthetic OEM oil is pricey. No need for Techstream on an oil change, so even an indy shop can do it properly.

Do it yourself. $40 30 minutes. Stock up motor oil when there are promotions, $30 per oil change.

Yup the worst is the 54$ TIRE ROTATION. I mean it's on the rack already for oil to drain!! I just rotate tires myself before taking in to dealership. Still like to have Lexus dealership do servicing for continuity of records and increased resale value. Will using aftermarket air filters or oil filters kill a warranty?

My last oil change for my 2010 LS 460L was on 11 November 2022 was $87.31 out the door. That also included a tire rotation. That being said I do receive a 10% military discount from Landers Toyota of NWA. The oil is 0w20 Mobil 1syn. The only time I take the LS to the Lexus Dealership is if it is warranty work. The Lexus dealer is a 250 mile round trip.

Going to Toyota dealer. $90 for oil change and$25 for tire rotation. I think it is reasonable.

Can I do it myself? I think so but I don't have any tools and prior experience. I think I will save 4 hours of time and prevent any screw ups by performing 1st time oil change on LS.

Rotate your tires yourself. Let them do the oil change.

edit - what is 4hrs for? Rotating wheels is a 5 - 10 minute job, and changing the oil does not take 3 hours.

Dissecting how/what a dealer charges is pointless. They need to make large markup to pay overhead, training, salaries, etc as well as it's a free market where they may charge what they wish. Consumers may choose to go elsewhere. Shop around, think ahead. That's your control of the situation. Especially simple tasks like oil change and tire rotation. Any indy shop can do this. Some tire stores offer lifetime rotate and balance with tire purchase.

Yeah, in general the dealership is not the place for service except in warranty or if someone else is paying. Find a good indie that specializes in Toyota/Lexus.

I believe drivers.lexus.com allows us to upload service history so it sticks with the VIN?

Here's a thread on DFW indies: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls-...hanic-dfw.html

All that said, Lexus interiors are so nice these days that I am looking for an excuse to stop by the dealer showroom

Well. yes, it you have a lift or multiple floor jacks. Most of us don't.
Buy your tires at Discount tire - best prices and lifetime rotation/balancing.

Went to a Toyota dealer. $90 for oil change and $30 for tire rotation. In and out in 30 minutes!

Yes the Lexus dealer got me last time for $185. Now I use my local gas station with allegedly full synthetic for $65.

As far as rotations, some stores offer lifetime rotations for $40 like Walmart for existing tires or free with tire purchase in Costco.

Finally, beware of the Lexus dealers charging $90 to replace a cabin filter. It is 3 minutes effort using a video online and a $20 part.

No way they are changing the oil with a quality synthetic for $65. The car has 9.5 quarts of oil (the LS does), and just the oil even at $7 a quart is $70.
