A fuse controlling the interior electronics is blown.
I have checked and rechecked all relevant fuses and none are blown.
It is most likely the fuse blew during a routine jump start
Not working:
Steering wheel audio buttons (mode + up + down)
Steering wheel audio volume buttons
Steering wheel telescopic adjust
Audio power/vol ****
Stereo, radio, buttons, tune ****
Everything else is working. Strangely, including the audio is fully working (if controlled from rear); steering wheel DISP buttons working, and steering wheel tilt buttons working.
Any thoughts on which fuse might be blown?
Note the "Audio Off" message on display (see picture)
There is like 6 fuse boxes!
Thanks! None of the audio buttons working (hazard switch is working)
Sounds like a bad connector behind the radio, or else a busted wire in the same area since it all works when controlled from the rear.
Has any work been done behind the radio recently?
Have you tried disconnecting the battery for 15 mins, then reconnecting it?
thanks for the reply
I have tried disconnecting the battery a few times and no luck
The only work done near stereo was installing bluetooth/aux GROM unit, several months ago and haven't had any issues with it since install, still working well
In case no fuses were blown or the battery reset was not effective, I worry that the jump start damaged semiconductors as is explained here.
I make it a rule to use a jump start cable with a surge suppressor between + and - cables. I have seen many modern cars failed while jump starting.
One simple idea to try to reset fully is to disconnect the battery for 12 hours or more and connect again. This method is effective when there still remain stray electrons in semiconductors.
Yes! it might not actually be a fuse ...
Thanks I will try unplugging the battery for 12 hours or more
Previously I tried disconnecting for 5 mins, then 15 mins, both these strategies didn't work
Disconnected the battery for 12 hours, then I even tried 24 hours to be sure. This was not effective.
Problem still remains: no response from audio/radio/cd/stereo/vol buttons
Even though stereo makes normal noises when car turns on and still fully works (when controlled with rear audio buttons)
At least I have narrowed it down to the stereo unit. I previously thought the steering wheel buttons were also affected. Upon closer inspection, the steering wheel is working as it should (accept the audio vol buttons).
I have been avoiding the final resort, switching out the radio unit. I can fetch one off eBay for cheap enough, no problem there. I just dread if I buy another one the issue might remain rendering a second unit pointless ...
I have tried removing the stereo unit completely and turning car on and off with it unplugged and replugged - in hope this would refresh something, but nothing. While i had it removed I was hoping I might see a fuse on the back of it somewhere (you know like the aftermarket stereos have), but couldn't see a fuse anywhere on it ...
Does any one know if there are any fuses inside it anywhere? I cbf opening it up if there are no fuses in it ...
Thanks!
