Default 2006 ML CD player repair possible?

Hi there. My factory ML CD player is having trouble reading CDs - it will play a few seconds, then skip forward, play a little more, pause, skip and repeat. I believe the laser is either dirty or out of alignment (bad pothole?). Is it possible to clean or repair the head unit? If not and I buy a working used unit, will it require a code or have to be paired to the car?

The player loads and ejects discs fine and im not ready to add on a Grom unit for MP3, etc right now.

You should just be able to replace it with an identical (used) unit.
I'm pretty certain that they don't need to be paired as mine has never needed a code even after long battery disconnections.

WAY cheaper to get a CD-lens cleaner disk first and try that. :-)
