None of my parts stores know what I'm talking about when I call it the 'tail shaft donut' (which is what my mechanic called it), I need to replace it for a roadworthy compliance.
Any help with the part # would be greatly appreciated
Any chance you are getting a leak? I was. And if I recall there is an output shaft seal that lists for maybe $11-$13, but the driveshaft has to come out. The indie garage investigated replacing the tail piece in case it was chewing the seal, because at the time the mileage was only 86k. He was thinking that it would be $80 for a part, so why not with the labor to replace the seal (wild guess so he called Lexus). As luck would have it, no such part is available as it comes with the transmission. That surprised both of us.
I'm talking about the metal tail piece under the nuts, where 2/3 are visible at 8 o'clock and 3 o'clock, and the 3rd being at 11 o'clock not visible, in your pic. If you are talking about the flexible piece, I believe that is available, but not sure.
edit here's a good view--I'm referring to the black tail piece. If the seal is leaking, trans fluid will rest on the aluminum bracket, and not even hit the driveway. It will also be in the tunnel. I think that the fact it doesn't hit the ground, and this cannot be seen from peering under, that likely it's happening on more cars than people know. On my car Lexus did a multipoint inspection and didn't even point it out. The indie did because he was looking while the car was on the lift and I was a new customer (they do a multipoint as well).
