Default 03 LS430 - Squeaking when I get out of the car

Hello,

When I get out of the car I hear a squeaking sound. Are my shock bushings shot?

Make sure it is not your door check, they do squeak. Mine healed itself.

If the squeak did not come from the door, then the next thing to check is the seat mounting hardware or the hinges of the seat-back. Otherwise if you use the steering wheel to pull yourself up, that could be the source of the squeak.

The LS430 has a 1,155 lbs payload capacity (5,100 - 3,945). I seriously doubt that you can make you shocks squeak by simply getting out of the car. You may possibly do it by rough-landing yourself on the seat. The better test would be to bounce up-and-down each corners of the car to see if you can replicate the squeak.

When my wife's car was brand new, <20 miles, the seats squeaked. There was actually a GM TSB about it, and apparently some for lack of a better word, shims were installed. I don't know how a seat cushion actually works but I envision springs to support the cushion and the springs can rub against themselves and make noise...

This does seem to be common, because 2 years ago over the phone I told the indie I have a clunk sound, and he said I bet it's sway bar end links. It wasn't, but the fact that he said it over the phone implies it's common...

Okay good suggestions from everyone. I'll check them out when I get a chance!

I had the same problem a few years ago, but it was very obvious that it was the parking brake - squeak came from the rear wheels, emanating from the rear rotors. To resolve the squeak, take the rear rotors off, spray white lithium grease into the springs, star wheel, and other moving parts that are not friction surfaces for the actual operation of the parking brake. Applying a heavier grease would last longer, so consider doing that if you are sure this is the problem source.

I now have another short faint squeak from something directly connected to the engine block, somewhere mid to lower part of the engine. The squeak is mostly noticeable when going over any uneven road that cause the engine block to move. I identified this by pushing/pulling on the engine block. Could be a loose bolt or maybe engine mount. I thought the squeaking was from the front and rear stabilizer bar bushings, and had all 4 bushings replaced with OEM. Maybe they had squeaked too but they definitely don't now.
