Advice needed..
Hello everyone, I purchased a 2006 ls430 recently and I am having the timing belt replaced, cam shaft seals, valve cover gaskets, and transmission fluid changed.
i received a call from my mechanic, he is telling me that he is gonna need to insert a crank shaft sleeve on to the crankshaft. Whoever worked on the car before I purchased it,used a pipe wrench on the crank when the timing belt was replaced at 89,000 miles.
the car has 156000 miles on it now.
my question to everyone. Are crank shaft sleeves a permanent fix or a simple patch?
thanks in advance...

I believe your saying it's a patch is correct. It sounds like your shop is concerned that without it, they would do the work and still have a leak....
I try to think if I have ever done anything like that, and the answer is yes. I used a pipe wrench on a nice Kohler real chrome faucet and marred the finish, but on the back side luckily. It happens and life goes on....unless it leaks afterwards, I think you will be just fine. Good luck!

It blows my mind that anyone with the mechanical know how to do a timing belt would even think about using a pipe wrench on a crankshaft pulley bolt. That sucks OP but hopefully they’ll be able to make it work
