What's this cable for?

Hi

So it was a nice and sunny morning and I decided to change my number plate bulbs to LED. So I removed the cover and just next to the number plate bulb housing I found a cable which looked untouched and I couldn't find anywhere it could fit. Could it be for the reverse camera?

Mine is a 2003 LS430 Non air suspension , without reverse camera, blinds and fridge.

Thanks

I believe the wiring harness is the same regardless of the options the car may be fitted with. There may be exceptions, but that is pretty much standard on all modern cars.

Hi thanks for the reply.

So do you recon I can simply get hold of an LS430 camera and just plug it in and that's it ...?

That MAY be all

First question would be if you have the navigation system, the backup camera uses that screen for the display.

Assuming you do I would proceed with caution. There may be more to it. Might also need techstream to enable it. I would be looking at the manual to determine if you need any other parts and pieces.
Then I would ask myself is the juice worth the squeeze? The LS has superb visibility making the back up cam less important.

My Prius really needs the camera. The LS really does not, but is nice to have.

I have a 2003 LS 430 as well and have changed my plate lights numerous times but don't recall a unplugged wire harness. Might just be what they had on hand and used it in place of something else, who knows.

Seem to only be a two-lead connector, which I doubt a camera would use. It might be an ancillary but unusable connector holdover that was used to unlock the trunk. If I recall the LS 430 in Japan (Celsior) has a way to unlock the trunk via the physical key which isn't available on 03 US spec LS 430's. I'm just pulling hairs at this point however.

Check the same ledge the power button is on but the opposite (drivers) side. You insert the key vertically pointing up...

It's over in the trunk right next to the license plate bulbs.

In the 2003 Owner's Manual it's shown on page 99.
