Platinum Lexus Warranty. 3/36 on an 04? What...
Hello.
Purchasing an 04 with 55k, nav and the ml systems. The dealer offered us the lexus Platinum 3/36 warry with $100 deductable for $2501.00 1. Is that a fair price? 2. Would this cover the speakers/sub? I've read it does and doesn't... 3. When I'm reading people are getting a handful of items covered/fixed under the warranty, are you taking the vehicle into Lexus every so often for an inspection? Or how is that falling into place? 4. Does the car have to be serviced from nownno at Lexus for the warranty to stay valid? 5. The 3/36 starts the day of our our purchase? |
These questions you should ask the dealer about. Most wouldn't pay for a warranty for a 04 as they are not worth the paper they are written on.

It doesn't matter what the salesperson or finance manager tells you, the fine print of the warranty has already made the decision. |
My advice is to put that money in a savings account earning 2.2% APY, and if something does break, take the money out.
My experience: Purchased a 2006 LS430 in 10/16, mfg. date 9/05 so 11 y.o. car. 81k miles. Today, it has 113k. Over the last 28 mos., the only thing that broke was 2 park sensors in the left front corner. I bought them on eBay for $13 each. Looking at the overall risk I would steer clear. This car may self destruct in 2 mos. and you say I gave you the worst advice possible. But the chances are that it won't be the case. |
It all depends I guess. I bought a 2001 ML-Nav for 2000$ so take that for what it's worth

You are wondering if speaker foam is covered by $2500 warranty - I think the foam replacement is like $20, that does not seems to make sense to me...
Bottom line is, you are asking if $10-$12K (my guess) car is worth getting a $2.5K warranty? If the car checked out, pre-purchase inspection do not show any major problems, maintenance history looks good, then it is not worth getting a warranty. If the car does not checked out, you can see some incoming big problems, and that is why you want to buy the warranty, then do not buy the car. |

Can you imagine there are people in this world who enjoy dealing with car dealerships and service departments? Most of us don't like it. |
Whatever the dealer is selling is without doubt NOT a Lexus warranty, but some third party offering. Steer clear, save your money, and enjoy your new ride.

Steer clear. Warranty not worth the paper it's printed on and there will be some small print to get them out of paying for anything.

On the LS430, it's hard to justify something like this, as these are pretty bullet proof, but on some cars a warranty may not be a bad idea. I've had good experiences with the CarMax warranty but it really depends on the car.
Remember what they say about opinions..... |
I was surprised to see an 04 eligible for a real Lexus Platinum warranty. Might want to get them to confirm
https://www.lexusfinancial.com/us/en...greements.html QUALIFYING CRITERIA 3Vehicles are eligible if they are within current plus 9 model years and less than 125,000 miles.4 Used vehicle plans are available only at the time of the used vehicle sale. |
When i purchased my 04 with 81k miles back in 2011, i purchased Route 66 warranty through credit union for $1200, mainly for peace of mind. At the time, I didn't know just how reliable these cars are. Starter, power steering pump, and driver door actuator replaced, all parts and labor covered by warranty. It paid for itself in my case. I would not have gotten it at $2500. However, if you want the same peace of mind knowing the major issues will be covered, only you can decide if it's worth it.

This is the part that Doug Demuro missed, when he bragged about how many repairs he got on his Range Rover, covered by an extended warranty.

"It is ok because the problems are covered by warranty" umm no, it is not ok because that is a new car. It should not have problems. smh - facepalm |
Not possible
That's not a Lexus warranty. The car does not qualify due to age. That makes it even worse, since the dealer has not made that clear.
Aftermarket Warranty? Just say no. |
