Default advise on aftermarket height sensors 04 UL

My Techstream just confirmed that my left rear height sensor is apparently not providing a signal .(Shows 0.0 value. The other 3 have a value.). Symptoms are a blinking AFS lite and a continual ride height “HI” regardless of the ride height switch position (when moving). All 4 sensors look ok visually.

best price on eBay for oem 89408-50060 assembly is about $250. A search found the sensor unit only (no arm, link or bracket) available from AliExpress for $22.00! They sell two brands in this price range. One has 5 positive reviews. The other has no reviews.

Im thinking what the hell.

Delivery will take a month The car is drivable. Comments appreciated, (but don’t try to talk me into coils. I’ll never do it.)

Chinese are making all the electronic gadgets you own (iPhones, Huawei etc). Id say this simple electro-mechanical device can be done properly by trained monkeys. Id go for it.

I had the exact same problem on the same sensor, before I knew of the sensor readings I replaced the strut and it didn't do much. Replacing the sensor leveled everything out but I bought OEM. I didn't know they sold aftermarket. If I did I would have tried it out first, and if it didn't work no big loss, the sensor didn't look very complicated when I had taken the previous one apart and tried cleaning it.

I would 100% buy a used OEM part over new aftermarket.

Generally speaking, I'd usually agree, but the OEM part has been proven to be low quality, so buying used is a gamble.

Also - considering you can buy over 10 of the Chinese sensors for the cost of a new oem part (which again, is low quality anyways), its probably worthwhile to weigh this as an option vs writing it off for no reason

Yes I did but when I started to install it I found a cut wire! I repaired the wire and poof, all was well!
Now I have a spare. Looks good anyway.
