I'm in New York and I'm seeing that the market for luxury vehicles in New York City is either cars that have not been cared for properly and are sold in fly-by-night dealerships located in iffy neighborhoods. The other side of that are the high end dealers, the brand names, which mostly sell cars no older than 5 years, 6 at the most. For that reason, these brand name dealers do not carry the LS430 cars.

I'm left having to expand my search to ratios of 200 miles or the one below 500 miles, all the way in Ohio. I'm willing to fly there and drive back for the right car, but I have drive to NJersey for cars only to find out that it was sold the night before. I've learned that this is a deceptive mechanism used by some dealers to get you in their chair.

I'm sure my search will take a bit longer as I'd prefer on with the "Ultra Luxury" package, even if it costs a bit more.

Was looking for a 2005-2006, as I wanted to avoid the few transmission issues of the 2004. I was running nationwide searches, and unlike others here I was looking for a UL. After almost two years, I found a solid car in Kansas City. Spoke with the dealer, and sent a deposit to hold the car. Flew out two weeks later, and it was all they said it was. They had no idea it was a UL model. Solid Lexus service history with air shock replacements, but absolutely nothing in Carfax outside of one oil change at 50k.

The car still smelled new, and not even dust under the engine cover. Always garaged, with a well documented 4K miles per year and annual detailing at the dealership in town. Purchased the car and drove home. Expected to spend around 3 grand in repairs with a car that’s 14 years old. Delighted so far with only a radar cruise cpu needing replacement, and timing belt after almost 20k of my miles on the odometer.

delighted 2005 UL owner! It is worth the search!

Still looking after 3 months. Most of the 2005's are over 130K mileage. Probably wait until spring if there is anything good coming out from the garage.

I've got a 2004 Sport. 2 owner 76k in Silver with grey. The exact car pictured in the Lexus catalog from that year. I've just joined so they won't let me post an ad.

Welp.. I may have cracked to sales pressure... But I just bought this vehicle without doing a PPI... But I did make an arrangement with them that if there is any issues with the engine or tranny, they would take the car back. So I am taking it to a dealership next week for a "PPI"

I was able to negotiate them down to $12k. Carfax is fairly empty but Lexus drivers showed pretty complete service history.

You should be fine. Just get her on the road and start putting miles on her. Love the non-nav setup and the Ash interior... great starting point!

I found this car while browsing also. From the pics it looks to be a great car. My favorite exterior color. Enjoy it.

Found my 2001 while perusing Craigslist. Made the deal and had it within a week. The 2005 was a CarMax purchase which took a couple days.

never had a 430 and dont really want one, but i know the insanity of trying to track down a perfect ls400! took me 6 months, driving across 5 counties, and driving 39 examples to find a 95 that was right. took me almost a year to find a 2000 that wasnt trashed. STILL looking for a clean black/grey 90. going on 3 years now.

About half a year.

Lots of auction cars, multiple owner cars and multiple accident cars out there I wouldn't get near.

As with all luxury vehicles, the "elderly owned, maintained at dealer on schedule, driven very little but not just sitting" deals seem to be the best for something that hasn't been neglected or thrashed. That's what I got.

I saw one yesterday on the expressway with the sport badge on the fender, and it was a unique color, I would describe it as bluish gray (if I had my catalog I'm sure I could identify it). Never seen that color on the road, can't tell what year but 04-06. Saw a very new 4th gen yesterday and told my wife, I don't really like that at all. She goes that's much newer than yours, I think it looks better. It was likely an '18.

I wonder if you saw a Cypress Pearl LS. I think those have a tinge of green in them, but under certain lighting it looks bluish gray. That was my preferred color, but it's probably the rarest color of them all?

@Stereorob , dang you love those LS400s! That'd be kind of bad *** if you ever were able to own 400 LS400s.

Where do you keep them all?!

That's one thing I envy about people who are in rust belt states, can pick up a rural steel building that was former manufacturing for almost nothing as a workshop and storage for a collection.
