Consensus on tires
#2
I have Pirelli P7 Plus’ now. They are very quiet and smooth tires, save for some road surfaces that make them decently loud. Overall they are MUCH quieter and more refined than the off brand ones that came with the car.
I’d still be very interested to try out some Michelins or some Continentals perhaps just to compare but I’ll have to wait a while.

17 inch and 18 inch tires for these cars and should be separate threads.

I was running pirelli P7 tyres but on the stock 17" rims and found them very quiet. When I changed to 19" rims I did a lot of research and ended up going for some kumho majesty solus KU50 tyres. What a mouthful. These are very quiet and comfortable ride although Im now running 36psi.

I've put the Michelin Defenders on 3 of my vehicles now. My '01 430, my '14 CX-5, and my '00 GMC 2500. They are awesome. Quiet, extremely long wearing, and good grip.

haha I know we like to cut to the chase so on my BMW it is definitive and was easy to say Michelin Pilot Super Sport back in 2015 (there is a newer gen today, the Pilot Sport 4S so that is now the choice).
I don't think it's as cut and dry for the LS430. First of all, most tires that anyone here can afford, even being a 2001-2006 car, are rated well beyond the capabilities of the vehicle. So, that means, there are so many tires that will "more than do."
JMO, I would avoid the Michelin Premier. It is generally a highly rated tire, however, it starts at 8.5/32, and my wife has them. With only 30k on them, from what we always knew by looking, they appear shot. Even a GMC dealer did a multipoint 5k ago and stated they need to be replaced soon lol If we believe Michelin, we ignore how shot they look and keep driving another 30k miles! My buddy said he never looked that closely, but on his Lincoln, they also look shot with slivers falling off etc. and he only has 35k as well. I dunno I have a feeling we have to do a warranty pro-rata and that's how they were designed (to get you to pro-rata pay).
Probably, any other tire that folks like here, are gonna work well. I have cheap Rydanz Roadster 02's that came with the used car, and prolly put 21k on them. They work just fine, in dry, in rain, and I'm not tossing them until they are worn out. If you get any name brand well-liked tire I think you'll be just fine. Me I'd get Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+. The car doesn't need them, but I like them from what I have heard. They start at 10/32 as well. They are ranked #1 in their category, and not only that, the ranking is over 1.7 mil. miles. So good enough for me....

I went from Michelin to the Perelli P7 about 7k miles ago. Only spent about $650 mounted, balanced, out the door. They have been a very good tire. I haven't noticed any major pro or con with them versus the Michelin I had. Michelin were going to be closer to $900 for the same basic tire. I'm just as happy with my P7 as I was with Michelin on my 17" wheels. 18" might be a different story.

I went with Yokohama Advan Sport’s last month, all 4 with certs from Discount for $579 OTD, on 18” 5 spokes. They ride great, quiet and have done very well with the inches of rain we’ve been getting.
Everything I read said Pirelli P7’s, but I figured I couldn’t go wrong with Yokohama so I went for it and saved some over the Pirelli’s. Happy with my choice.

Please make an update when you get them mounted and have some miles on em. I was looking at these but got the Pirellis instead to be safe because I'm a bit... obsessive. Lol

I've actually had 4 sets on my Maxima, 1 when I did 18's, and 3 when I did 16's. Nothing negative to say except the treadwear seems inflated (a 540 AA A for one brand, has nothing to do with a 540 AA A on another brand, we know that, but it just struck me that Kumho's rating was far more optimistic than Michelin's. These UTQG ratings are self-reported. Like you posting your salary, and me posting my salary LOL). The only reason I will never buy their products was it took them I forget how many months to send the rebate/debit card...maybe it was 5...I actually have 2 brand new ones in my shed, and 4 gently worn ones on OE 1998 Maxima rims...not sure what to do with them it's a tire shoppe in my shed, a joke (2 sets of snows on rims, 1 set of OE rims for Maxima, and various bent 18 rims thanks to my wife)

I’ve always used kumho ecsta on my old car. Quiet ride, smooth, and good tire wear if you keep up with tire rotation. I did tire rotation every oil change/5000 miles. I also had 30k mike warranty
