Hi guys, my ls 430 2002 dashboard lights are gone so dim that it gets hard for me to see during the day time. Is it possible to open the speedometer and replace the bulb or should i purchase a new speedometer (scrap model)
i don't think you have to open the actual speedometer cluster. but you should be able to access the bulbs from the back of it.
the dial isn't turned down is it?
the dial is turned to the maximum yet it is not comfortably visible during the day. Are you sure that i will be able to change the bulbs ? So you mean i also can change the color of the dial by changing the bulb colours ? And what do you mean i can access the back of it ? Do i have to open the speedometer or access the bulbs from somewhere else ?
unfortunately, i have not replaced anything myself, so i am not 100% sure. but when you say open the speedometer....you will have to remove the speedo housing from the dash, but you should not have to actually take apart the housing.
you have to remove the part in red , but should not have to take that apart once out of the dash.

i understood your point that the bulbs are located behind the speedometer but are you sure if those are replaceable? I remember owning a toyota camry and i wished to change the dial colour of the car but unfortunately after opening the speedometer i realized the bulbs are irreplaceable..
oh wow. unfortunately i am not 100% sure. maybe someone with experience or has had the speedometer out can advise. i work at a parts place, and i know we sell some dash bulbs for toyotas, etc. but for our cars, i am not 100% sure. sorry.
I have a suspicion, but not a concrete answer, that the speedometer/cluster lights for all model years of the LS430's are non-user replaceable. I say this because all the user-replaceable lights in the LS430 are incandescent bulbs. The gauge cluster doesn't exhibit the typical "yellow warm white" glow of incandescent lights. I have a feeling they are all soldered in SMD LED's. Which can still be technically replaced if you're good with a soldering iron. But its defenitely not a twist-out/twist-in bulb replacement.

So basically i cannot do anything other than replacing my speedometer. Well thanks! that cheered me up
