Default How to take apart the dash DIY.

This guide is intended for people who are taking apart the dash to install; an aftermarket stereo system that goes behind the radio and allows bluetooth/aux/whatever else capability like a GROM, VASI TECH, AND BT45-TOY. I learned a lot during my setup and wanted to share. First off, I took a pretty long time like a couple hours with the car on and my battery died and I had to jump start the car. I drove it for a bit when I had to go to the store to get a ratchet extension but it wasn't enough - so be cautious; however, it wasn't driven on the highway for 2 weeks before I did this and took a lot of very short trips which sucked a lot of power from the battery to operate the starter, so the battery might have been drained a little from that.

1. Turn on the car but don't start the ignition.Shift into drive. I don't think the car will let you turn it off unless you put it in park, thus the car will remain on. This is to give you more room, I tried doing it without this but it wasn't feasible.
I used this pry tool to pry the controls where the seat climate controls are. (Either will work) But you can also use a metal tool with tape at the end that is slightly smaller.

This shows where the clips are located. I was being very gentle at first trying not to break anything but soon realized that these clips are VERY DURABLE and I had to use some force. It takes some time getting used to pry out the trim, you just have to experiment and work at it. When it does come out I tried to remove the wire plug but it was super stiff and I didn't want to break anything so I left it in.

Credit goes to GROM.

. Now we have to remove the trim with the the drive mode button (other buttons for CL models), drawer, and the panel that goes on top of where you insert the discs.

As you can see there's three screws you need to remove. You can remove then using a screw driver or a 10mm socket. TIP: Put a towel into the cavity so that if you drop them when unscrewing you don't drop them in the cavity and you probably will have to buy new screws. The top two clips are not like before and are easier to pry. Use a pry tool. I used this one. You have to "push" rather than pry.

The clips look like this.

Everything should look like so.

3. Now to remove the stereo. First you need to remove two screws. They're titled. CAREFUL do not remove the wrong ones, I accidental removed the one on the bottom foolishly. They're pretty hidden and require a good amount of force. **again use a towel to catch the screws**

Now there are clips on the sides. I used the big flat pry tool above and inserted it in and pryed it out **Do not insert it too much inside only a very little bit of the tool should go inside like maybe half a cm? (I did this awhile back so might need to do things differently)**

4. Sadly, I don't know the specifics of your device so you might have to figure out how to install your system yourself. But for my system the BT45-TOY I'll tell you what I did, and this is generally true for other systems on 04-06 models. Remove the SMALLER plug behind the radio and plug the supplied cord. Take the plug you just removed and put it in the the supplied female end. That should do it. Now to put it all back together. What I learned is that you shouldn't stuff it in really hard behind the stereo. My nav screen actually said something like "external device not connected" and turned black but the radio still worked. I put the wires sort of to the left to avoid this issue. and kind of squeezed the rest onto the spongy part behind the stereo. AFTER you have tested that your bluetooth/aux whatever works put back the stereo, it should just clip on. And screw the screws back in.

5. Now I had the stereo back in I had the BT45-TOY body itself so I had to put it somewhere. You can't put it behind the stereo I found so I concluded the best place for it was next to the drawer, it's circled in red; make sure the wires do not have a lot of tension and its barely holding. This spot is good because if you need to change the settings on your device you only need to remove one trim panel! Note: My device was a BT45-TOY. Spend some time and make it fit so there aren't complications later.

Now after pushing back this trim into the dash I realized it wouldn't "stay" and would sort of pop out. So I had to move the device into many weird positions before I found the best place for it where it utilized the free space the best. Even after this it wasn't perfect and to this day it feels "different" like it's popped out a more but don't worry about it it's hardly noticeable. Rescrew the screws back to secure the trim. It should look much better now, though it wasn't perfect for me. USE A TOWEL WHEN RESCREWING!!!

6. The last piece of trim should just clip in.

I found this video helpful but it doesn't tell you that you have to remove the center screw to remove the second panel!!! I was going crazy figuring out why this wouldn't come out!

I hope many people in the future find this useful.
