Default fuel stats did not automatically reset

First time, I filled up the tank, took around 15 gal. The numbers did not reset (the tank avg., miles since refuel, etc.). Any ideas? Again, this is the first time I've observed that. The manual doesn't say anything, only has an asterisk in this section. I wonder, is there any condition that would prevent, maybe ignition on, or ACC, or something?

It won't reset if the ignition is on while refueling.

I wonder if that is it...I like the feature. It kind of mimics real life today, where things are tracked automatically and cannot be erased (this can by reset). Meaning, if you wanted to measure your mpgs at highway speed only, etc., you could reset, yet the tank is there for the overall...

Tank Average will reset after you fill up and restart the car. If you leave it running while refueling, I don't believe it knows to reset the Tank Average. Also, it won't reset after subsequent restarts. Must be something with the gauge moving back toward the full position after 1 cycle of Key off/on?

RKW..?

My engine definitely was not running, but I probably did turn the ignition to ON while fueling, to grab the odometer to put it in my android app.

Another thing I find annoying with the LS is if you can't put the window down when the ignition is OFF after so long, when the attendant comes back to hand over the receipt....full serve gas, first world problems I know...

I fuel my LS and let her run, every time, and my fuel stats reset on every fill-up.

(I still haven't figured out why she sputters for 5-7 seconds while fueling up.) That trick just started a couple weeks ago.

The owner's manual says that for it to reset the ignition should be off. It says it won't reset if you open the fuel filler door using the manual lever in the trunk or if you refueled with a small quantity of gas. Pages 91-92 in my '05 owner's manual.

You can simply reset the item manually also...

FYI----I refuelled yesterday, EVERY Tuesday, whether she needs it or not!. Tiger Tuesday! Exxon is $.20 off super unleaded!

FYI2---I left her running while refueling, and she reset the TANK AVG and the RANGE estimate as soon as I placed her into Drive.

Well she did reset, and I made sure to keep everything off. Really not sure if that were it because I'm always recording my odometer into my phone, and of course I need to use the window since it's full serve in NJ, so I never thought about it before. I like having the distance since refuel and tank mpg reset automatically...this way you "can" reset the avg mpg to see how she's doing on the highway, for some trip, then behind the scenes your overall avg is still being tracked...

So, without diving into schematics, I would have to assume then the reset is connected to the fuel level sensor sensing upward travel.

I would agree with your hypothesis, unless there's a flow switch mounted in the fill pipe somewhere, that when activated by the fuel movement through the filler neck/pipe enroute to the tank, it connects to the reset circuit?

I'll doublecheck this weekend to see if it resets ONLY after refuelling or...after refuelling AND transmission being shifted out of P. Not knowing which scenario resets the stats kinda irks me lol.

Just do a manual reset and be done with it. Very simple, see owners manual.

For me, I don't want to do a manual reset, I want it to work as designed and the way it has worked over the last 19 mos. (it does its thing behind the scenes). Why can't people do things the way they prefer lol

I was at one of our offices and the GM just got a new Canon imageRUNNER (one of dem huge a** copiers that prolly costs $700/mo. to lease). One of his staff has to scan paper docs (archaic process), and when she was done after a full day, there were like 500+ tif files. They called the help desk asking can this be set to pdf by default like the OKI was? The associate on the phone told her just use tif and be done with it. Wrong answer! (kind of a comedy of errors as to who is the customer here--dang millenials)
