Default Water Pump on 04 lexus ls430

It is time to change the Timing belt on my 04 Lexux LS430. I have always been told to use a Toyota water pump. The mechanic tells me now that the timing belt kit contains a water pump from China. Has anyone had any experience with this water pump. It will cost about another $100 to use a toyota water pump.. Would like to hear some opinions.

Consider how much work it takes to replace it and the next time it's scheduled for replacement is 90,000 miles away, I would vote "No" for the Chinese water pump. The "savings" is not worth the risk.

Bad water pump = possible engine damage. If its from an evergreen parts set or aisin then it is fine.

I know from NAPA they retail the water pump, timing belt, tensioners, camshaft seals and spark plugs for $500 and change. My friend who owns the shop gave me them at cost for $280 for everything so the mechanic is probably marking up the pump.

If you know where to look the Toyota pump is just over a hundred bucks...

Rockauto sells TB kits without the water pump for around $70 depending on brand. I don't think you can buy an Aisin kit this way but there are reputable brands such as Gates, Dayco etc.

Not just that but if it leaks shortly after install you'll be kicking yourself for not spending the extra $100 for the OEM parts. With something this major for the average person, spending the extra $100 to potentially not have the extra headache is money well spent. Buy the OEM water pump and don't look back...just my opinion.

Amazon Amazon
This seems to be the forum favorite. It is a complete kit.

Here is just the water pump.
Amazon Amazon

You can also check dealers for parts.

Buy the full Aisin kit. That is the OEM kit. They might try to put a Gates kit or other and save a few dollars. Not worth it.
