Question Any differences between (2001-2003) air suspension and (2004-2006) ?

I've noticed that they have different part numbers for new rear air struts.. When listed used it's almost always 2001-2006 ?
I've also read somewhere on here where there is no difference between left and right struts, Lexus just changed the part numbers for tracking purposes.
My 2001 LS 430 UL is losing air overnight on the right rear.

Any help would be appreciated!
I couldn't find this information on any threads.

Guess not! It’s probably just an updated part number

I converted my UL to coils and shocks, and the ride is so much better than the air ever was. The air was fine if you liked to float down the road, but the new suspension gives me road feel, better handling, but is not harsh over bumps, etc. Air suspension is the gift that keeps on taking.
Arnott now has LS430 air struts that come with a lifetime guarantee, and far less expensive than OEM

Thanks!
My right rear shock is done and it bounces all over the place and leaks out overnight. I have an extra shock but with 200k I'm thinking I should just change them all out and sell the good ones......I like the idea of coilovers and was considering the BC's with swift springs. What are you running on yours?

BTW ,https://www.arnottindustries.com/amf...is--2002-34596 only sells the fronts and they do not have the variable dampening (aka "electronics")....Not that bigt of a deal but I do notice a difference between sport and normal....I usually drive around in Sport now to keep the car from bouncing as much!
On MBZ they work very well and when I worked at MBZ they sold those as an option to OEM so I'm sure they are good quality.

I bought the Strut Master kit. You will need probably want to adjust the coils...i.e. cut them by 2 inches; otherwise they ride too high. I did not cut mine, but my car looks a little strange, as the wheel well clearance is almost two inches taller than spec. I've been "gonna get to it," but now I've just gotten used to it. The ride is great.

Thumbs up

MYSTERY SOLVED!
I removed my defective strut today and discovered the difference. The 2001-2003 struts are manufactured by a Tokico and the 2004-2006 are manufactured by KYB. Outer dimensions as far as fitment to the vehicle are the same. The top part of the strut looks identical. The lower tube of the Tokico strut is slightly larger and feels just a tad bit heavier. Pictures soon to follow.

thanks for the infor...
Do you know whether it matters or not if they are specific to the right and left. It seem like you can take the left rear right and put it on the right rear right? and vice versa...

I've seen it posted that the left and right side are identical except for the part number. The reason the part number is different was so that Lexus could track which side had a higher failure rate... At least that's what I found on the forum.. It makes sense perfect economic sense that if they could make both sides the same they would. They would save on tooling costs, etc...
To be honest when I installed mine yesterday I didn't look at the part numbers to compare I just installed the one I had and it fit.
(UPDATE)
I just checked the part number of the strut "48080-50110" and looked it up MYLPARTS.COM and the left and right side are the same!
The least expensive place to purchase this is on eBay for around $750 per side with free shipping as they are much more expensive at MYLAPARTS.COM .
I found more of a selection on eBay when I searched by "LS430 REAR AIR STRUT" than I did by the part number.
I almost bought one because I found a little bit of oil on the top of the strut on the left side but I decided not to replace it at this time since it still drives fine and it was only very little oil. My car rides very nice now!

I also found that the Tokico rear struts are about 1” shorter than the later KYB struts. This was probably because 2004-2006 LS430’s featured the 18” wheels.

Extended

Fully compressed

I have celsior year model 2000 (ls430 2001-2003) and the speedometer only has 40tkm (~25t miles) so air suspension you might think it's okay but no. My left hand side rear strut is leaking a little bit. Because there is length difference between 01-03 and 04-06 struts so it sounds like that I must install 01-03 strut if I just replace one strut.
But if I decide replace both rear struts then it is probably ok to install 04-06 struts? I have plan to buy used parts.

Didn't want to start a new thread - given the visible differences here, has anyone put the 01-03 struts on a 04-06?

Is there different compatibility between front and rear 01-03 -> 04-06?

yeah.. hate to revive a 4 year old thread but has anyone used a 01-03 strut on a 04-06 car? I wonder if that inch makes a difference. 01-03 junker struts are also half the price and much easier to find/

Unfortunately, this is invalid at the present time. OEM struts installed at the factory and OEM struts sold in the market are two different products.

I have 01-03 softer struts on my 06 Lexus and they are made by KYB. Very very high quality product, especially if put on new OEM rubber strut mounts.

Go for it, you won’t be disappointed.

One tip - the performance of these stocks depends on the Hands and Skills of the installer.
