Top 10 reasons LS430 as a used car...
Don't think I've seen a thread like this, but we have a lot of potential owners asking about the LS430 as a used car.
Thought we could use this thread to gather up our personal reasons why the LS430 is such an awesome used car for each of us.
I'll combine all the inputs and re-edit this entry with our reasons....I'm sure we could come up with our own 'Top Ten' list.
And I'll start off with...
1. As high dollar initial purchases, generally well taken care of by people who could afford the proper maintenance at the right time. Often times great maintenance record that can be found on the Lexus owners site.

From my personal experience...
4. When you take your car to the mechanic, you hear things like, "Your car drives like brand new and has one of the best shifting transmissions that I've ever driven."
5. If you need a tow, the tow truck driver will be in disbelief that your car broke down.

- Extremely high reliability (low failure rate of major or even minor systems/components)
- Uniqueness (comparatively to other brands/makes/models, not that many produced)
- High build quality (quiet cabin, no rattles, great fit & finish)
- Serene and solid driving yet powerful V8 when needed
- Visual appeal & beauty is much deeper than 'skin deep'
- readily available and wide variety and economical service parts
- routine service is shadetree mechanic friendly
- no overwhelming desire to 'upgrade' to another car

Great point-----same for me with no overwhelming desire to 'upgrade' to another newer car. (I'm going to edit my previously posted bullets and add this! Thanks Jay! )

I have wanted to get into this car since 2003 .I actually bought a 2001 Mercedes e430 4matic instead in '03 with 27000 miles and it was/is a nightmare. I've had so many problems, one after the other that the car has it's own name. We just call it the mercilous. So here I am ready to finally buy another used luxury and I always fall back to the last 430. Only thing now is that I'm just a little concerned about the age since I want to keep the next car for a very long time. I'm going to look at an '05 on saturday.

I can't remember off hand but the big items were the trans at 104000 miles, full rebuild. Entire instrument cluster went at 30,000 miles. As it sits right now, both cats are burned out. It needs full front end work including two new front half shafts. Both motor mounts went out at around 35000 miles new radiator at trans rebuild. Mass air meter replaced. Crank sensor .SRS seat pad sensor. Not everything was major but it was always something.
Oh and the biggie right now is the evaporator is bad. Been bad for over 4 years now. Much more has gone bad but that's enough.
