Default HVAC blower motor inoperative!

Can you believe it? 149,488 miles and I’m sitting in a parking lot wondering why my hands are cold but my rear end is warm. It’s because the seat heater works, but not the blower for the hvac!!

Ive tried all settings (defrost, mix, face, feet) and none work. The motorized door works because I can hear it when changing modes, but the blower simply isn’t working in any of the speeds.

Grrrrreat, and we’re getting snow tonight. Glad I have my F150 for backup.

Any takers? Possibility it could simply be a blown fuse? I’ll check the cabin filter to see if there’s a tree branch blocking the motor from spinning, but doubt that’s the problem.

So pissed.

Good deal that it started working again. Hopefully just a hiccup.

It has been well below zero for days here. Just yesterday a fan noise started down by my glove box. If I whap on the glove box, it stops.

Is there a separate fan in the glove box area? Hopefully it will go away when the weather warms up.

The fan (and the filter & filter holder/frame) for the HVAC is behind the glove box area. If you've never changed it before, do yourself a favor, and get the proper cabin filter (Purolator, Wix, Toy/Lex, whatever you choose), and change it! I personally like the Toy/Lex version, because they're impregnated with activated charcoal, which helps absorb odors better.

It's best to totally empty out the glove box so you you don't end up cursing that there's not enough room, etc, lol. Once everything is out of the glovebox, there are 2 tabs (on the back of the glovebox) that you squeeze to undo, then take that cover piece off. That gives you access to the air filter frame that is somewhat UP in the air box. Pull the frame down a bit, then pull towards you to remove, then remove the old filter from the frame.

I would also have a vacuum cleaner on-hand. What you see when you lower & remove the filter may disgust you! I found the filter replacement difficult to do when there's low lighting, so have either a droplight, or headlight, or bright day or well lit garage, etc.

Sounds as if you have something touching the fan blades when the fan is on!

I have a thread of my first HVAC cabin and seat filter change posted here... https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls-...lter-pics.html

Stop the whapping, and get to changing!

Let us know how you make out!!!

I did change the cabin filter (under the glove box) this summer and cleaned that area. It was more like a "love tap" not a "whap". The sound is more like a fan that is going out. I manually put the fan on Hi and then back to auto and the sound goes away. So, I'm thinking it is just very cold. Hopefully the fan isn't starting to go. That might be an expensive one.
