Default Front Windshield Sunshade recommendations? (merged threads)

Do you use a sunshade on the front windshield if you park your car outside?

If so what brand do you use?

I use this one I bought from mylparts.com. They have 5% discount code (CL5) for CL members. Fits great!

AN

ETA: Looks like they are doing 10% off right now, for the holidays.

Rain or shine, I use a front "sun shade" on all of the cars if it will be outside for more than 20 minutes.

I believe it is one of the factors that goes towards longevity of the dash board and the interior in general. We tend to keep our cars a long time and this practice seems to have served us well.

Get a good one that fits and use it often....

Default What brand of windshield sun shade is best?

I've gone through about 3 cheap POS sunshade brands from Walmart and Autozone. They get soft and lose their shape fast since I park outside all day in the Texas heat. The black trim also starts to deteriorate and gets all over my car.

What's a good brand that ya"ll are using?

To me the most important thing about a sunscreen for LS430 is the type. If they work great, I don't care if I have to replace them every year at less than $15 each. I've found that the best type is the 2-piece rectangular ones that are made of a cloth covered spring that fold into a circle. They must be 32 inch in height. That allows them to be placed in the windshield with the top tucked under the cars upper sunshades without them being folded down. I place the right one in place with the left one on top of it and then slide over to the left until it is also snug and then the top tucked under the left sunshade. The screen doesn't need to be placed under the rear mirror. The result is a complete blockage of the front windshield without even having to fold down the car sunshades. It's also easy and quick to install and remove. I use it every time I park in the hot arizona sun. It will save your dash and steering wheel.

Spring loaded is the best. Have one for each vehicle. Sometimes I even remember to use them. Been getting mine from ebay.

I've been buying the foldaway ones at Costco (can't remember the brand) and have never really had any issue with them holding up.

I use covercraft in my daily and it works great. They have custom shades also, which is what I plan on getting one for my LS 430. Price is reasonable and it is very durable. Comes with a case for easy storage as well.

Looks like an excellent product. Covercraft makes good quality stuff.

The wife had those round, circle spring loaded type that fold up quite nicely in the LS430.

When she got her LS460 I acquired a WeatherTech "TechShade" made for her model. Shiny on one side and black on the other it rolls up. She hated it and we swapped and luckily the "Techshade" fit fairly well (but not as tight around the mirror as I would have liked). The LS430 was handed down to me as my now daily driver.

Which one is "best" depends on your definition. I would say the round, spring loaded versions are most effective to block out the light since they have oversized flaps which tuck up around the mirror and the sun visors. But, the reflective ones do a good job as well of keeping the interior cooler.

Then durability and replacement costs are factors, too..... Lots of choices and opinions in this space and hard to award a "best" designation.....
