Air Suspension Problem - you guys have solved all of my problems up to this point!
This forum has been so great, I haven't had to take my car to a mechanic in years. I've searched high and low to find the solution to this problem but have not had any success yet, so I have to post this. Car is a 2001 Lexus LS 430 with UL, air suspension, 182k miles. Family has owned it since brand new, live in Chicago, so lots of snow and salt on the roads in the winter.
Last week my 2001 LS430 - UL pkg, air suspension - headlight warning came on, and car was riding higher than normal, but drove fine. I searched around the forums and found the headlight leveling sensor as a cause, sure enough the rear drivers side headlight leveling sensor bracket was cracked. I took it off, welded it back together and put it back on while I was at work. Drove the car home (headlight leveling light was still on), however the car seemed to be riding fine. A few minutes before I got home, the rear end of the car raised all the way up and the ride became unbearably rough, started bouncing all around, over the smallest bump. The rear end is maxed out high and I can't get it down. Front end is at the normal height level.
My dad has a 2005 LS430 UL, and today I took both of his rear headlight leveling sensors and put them on my 2001. Tried pulling the fuses for air susp and for headlight leveling. Left the battery disconnected for about 10 minutes to try to reset everything. Still getting headlight leveling warning, and cannot get the rear suspension down. Local dealership wants $535 with tax for a new drivers side headlight leveling sensor, which if I knew it would fix the problem i would bite the bullet.
Any ideas before I have to turn this one into a professional, or worse yet the dealer??
Thanks for all your help
