Wrong tire size for LS430? 225/65R17
 

I had the dealer put snow tires on my 2002 LS430 UL after I bought it, and they tires rub when I turn. They told me it's because the front air shocks are leaking (which they are, I have two new ones ready to install one of these evenings), but I decided to research a little, and I can't find any record of anyone using 225/65R17 on their LS430. According to Tirerack, it should be 225/55R17.

Can someone confirm whether these tires are the wrong tires?

I can confirm that my snows are 225/55-17 Xice Xi3's.....yours are a bit too tall.....

I bought a second set of wheels for summer, and I'm getting tires put on them tomorrow. They are 18" PVD coated OEM wheels. The dealer said they had 235/50R18 tires for them, will those work? I see 245/45R18 as the factory tire size for the 18s

I would try another dealer, not sure why they are installing tire sizes that do not match what was issued at the factory...are the offsets on these 18's > 42mm, in order to clear the calipers?

It's because that's all they had in stock, I bet.

Use Tirerack to buy tires and you won't have that issue - and have more choice.

My 2002 Canadian LS430 UL came with 225/55/17 summer and winters, the spare tire is the same, and the summer and winter tires I bought are the same.

I just remembered that, to be fair, this time around for the summer tires I had suggested that it might be the correct size. I called and changed it to be 245/45R18, and now I have to wait another day because they didn't have that in stock :)

The wheels I got are the 18" wheels from the later years LS430s. Here's the product page from Detroit Wheel where I bought them.

I'm going to ask the dealer to replace the snow tires with the proper sized ones, since it was their mistake on those.

245/45/18 is the correct size. Anything taller or wider will definitely rub. Those five spoke wheels will look amazing on your LS.

Those snow tires are massive. That is GX460/470 sized tires. Hopefully they give you the right size.

cool, this pic illustrates why the 45mm offset is beneficial. Some of the diagrams online illustrate positive offset by showing the spokes as a reverse deep dish, where that's not realistic. Yes, the more positive offset, the more tucked in the wheel is. But if the spokes attach at the outer edge of the rim, the positive offset causes the spokes to be almost vertical, allowing clearance for the calipers....style-wise, seems you just don't see the BBS type that came on say a 2001 BMW that has the basket set inwards. The dealer made it right when I came in and talk to them today while I had it in for the new tires on the new wheels. They are replacing the snow tires with the correct size at no cost to me. They weren't sure how exactly it happened that they put the wrong size tires on it, I think it was just one of those human mistakes that happen from time to time. I will post pictures of the new wheels once I have it back.

I had to leave it with them overnight, because I had them install a new air shock that I bought and the bolt that had been on there for (presumably) 15 years was messed up from me trying to remove it so they had to order a new one. I'm trying to stick with the factory air suspension, so far I replaced one airshock in the rear myself.

That's good to hear, mistakes happen, this will cost them, but they're willing to do the right thing. Still find it interesting that Lexus/Toyota installs customers parts (the Toyota dealer near me does, but the rates are messed up).
