Default steering wheel position reset

Hello everyone! New to this, just picked up 2004 LS430 Base with 93k miles. One issue that is bothering me when I shut the car off, the steering wheel retracts but when I get back in and start the car it does not return to previous position. It stays in the retracted position and I have to manually set it back every time...you can see how this can be annoying. Anyone have any advice?

Thanks in advance.

When you say retract, do you mean tilt (up/down) or telescope (in/out) or both?

Have you made all of your personal adjustments (seat seatings, mirrors, steering wheel position, etc) and then saved them correctly to one of the three buttons on the drivers door?

The manual details how to save those settings...

how many keys do you have? using 1 key, set the seat, mirrors and steering wheel to your preferred positions. then push reset and 1 at the same time until you hear a beep. now whenever you use this key the seat, mirrors and wheel will go to these settings. if you have another key, set everything to the same or different settings and push reset and 2 until you hear a beep. whenever you use this key everything will go to these settings. you cannot program the valet key for this, only the master keys can be set this way. it is important to set all three things before you push reset and the number. take a few minutes to get everything as you want. you should take some time just to get all the seat setting good, there are a bunch. then the mirrors, then the wheel. done correctly once and you are good to go.

I just realized the tilt does not work only telescope. To answer Gronemus question - I programmed my desired position of the mirrors, steering wheel, seat into setting 1. When I press that everything works but the steering wheel. I can manually telescope it into place but can't go up and down.

I've had mine for a few weeks. The steering tilt and telescope worked fine at first then the tilt stopped working. I was getting around to looking into it and now after about a week it has started working again. @#$#%^
I imagine the gremlin will come back. If you figure yours out please post an update.
