Default how did you settle upon your driving position

With cars having memory seats nowadays, I figure most people are in the same position, every time they drive a particular car. How did you decide on your driving position?

Mine is pretty far from the wheel--no matter what car I drive, the seat back is behind the b pillars on a 4 door.

Also, my hands are always below 9 and 3. I still see people driving at 10 and 2, and 11:30 and 12:30? When I learned to drive, and it wasn't yesterday, we were taught to never drive at 10 and 2, which is why I'm baffled that people still do it. I saw on a video Conan O'Brien doing it on his BMW, I mean this guy went to Harvard, wouldn't he know how to drive?

One thing I am doing wrong, per the BMW instructors, is my arms are too far away from the wheel, which is what I was taught. They want the end of your wrists being able to drape over the top of the wheel....

Well there's always the "cool look". Seat back at 45 degrees to get down. Ideally the driver is so low you can only see a cap or hat. One hand draped loosely over the wheel. Not best Sears Point position

I'm a left-handed wrist draper. The seat's positioned so that my wrist, when my hand is fully extended, rests on the top of the wheel. My left elbow is on the top ledge of the door, and I've got a firm grip on the wheel at 9-10 o'clock with my index finger and thumb, and my middle finger nail touching the wheel. My other fingers are up and out as if I'm a wealthy English senior citizen sipping tea on a Sunday morning. I'm leaning to the right with some of my weight on my right forearm on the center console, or otherwise behind the passenger's seatback/headrest.

The first thing I do is adjust the seat so it is comfortable, with the right foot in a proper position on the accelerator pedal and adequate thigh support. Then I adjust the steering wheel so I can see the instrument panel without obstruction. Steering wheel distance is adjusted to allow the wrists to just drape over the top of the wheel when the arms are full extended forward. Hands are at the 2-10 position with both hands on the wheel at all times. Phone never comes out of my pocket and I only take received phone calls, no texting ever. Personal music comes from an iPod in the glove compartment with controls thru the car Audio functions.

Spending 3 hours a day in the car, 5 days a week gives you the opportunity to try out almost every conceivable seating position. I usually drive with the left hand at 8 or 9 on the wheel, but occasionally I do the 10 & 2 thing. My biggest concern is trying not to put a divot in the center console cover due to keeping my right elbow in the same position all the time. It ain't easy...

I've settled on a small amount of lumbar support, which feels good, but I can sure feel the difference between the 2001 and the 2005. The seats are so much nicer in the '05. (110,000 less miles to be exact)

My '01 had really plush comfortable seats. I saw the thread about hard uncomfortable seats and thought "get real" it's a 430. Now understand. My 04 drivers seat is nowhere near as comfortable. Since the air cool feature is pretty much worthless is it better to do an aftermarket seat cushion or use a stock Lexus part? Big difference in price? Reasonable labor cost to do the replace?
