I'm pretty sure the magnets are in the bottom of the pan and not in the strainer/filter. At least that is how it is in the 400.

Default it's the pan, not filter :(

Ohhhhhhh damn. I think you're right. So much for my newer magnet hopes! I mistook RKW's diagram for the filter, not the pan!

I am getting ready to do drain and refill on my 04. I have downloaded the owner manual, and it says that drain and refill is 2.4 qt. I went to Lexus dealer yesterday and bought 3 qt, thinking that is enough. Glad I saw this thread. It seems like I need to buy another qt.

You might be ok, but better safe than sorry. I've seen a lot of posts saying that they only got about 2 qts out doing a drain and fill. The ones that are getting closer to 3 qts out are doing it with the front of the car elevated compared to the back of the car so more comes out.

@Mbodall thanks!

My garage has a slight incline, but what I have done in the past with my other cars, I would park the car facing outside, and jack up the front a little until the car is level. It will be tight but should give me enough room to work under the car.

But I am still going to get another qt just to be safe...
