Default Brake Fluid - What type to buy?

I am having my brake fluid flushed in a few weeks and the shop asked what kind of brake fluid I would like, regular or synthetic? I was going to buy OEM Toyota fluid but I am curious about synthetic and am open to suggestion. Also, how much do I need? Thanks.

Google
Are all brake fluid synthetic?
All DOT3 & DOT4 fluid is synthetic...ie it is man made and does not have a petroleum base. DOT3 & 4 can safely be mixed. HOWEVER DOT5 (or 5.1) brake fluid is silicone based and must NEVER be mixed with DOT3 or 4.

That's weird I thought all brake fluid was synthetic. I thought the only difference was they're all pretty much glycol based except I think DOT 5 which is silicone based. Totally could be wrong though I'm sure your mechanic knows more than I do!

If it was me I'd stick with the fluid that's already in the system because I don't like to mix fluids if I can avoid it but that's purely a personal preference.

edit: bradland beet me to the punch haha
